For anyone out there who does a balance transfer to get a honeymoon interest rate (eg Citibank 2.9% for 18 months) make sure that you also cancel that first card once it has a nil balance as well as cutting it up otherwise those cards take on a life of their own and before you know it you've maxed out the original one again. There's still plenty of scope to do damage even if the card is in tiny pieces.

Very good advice overall but this is much easier said than done. If it was that easy many of us would not have any debt at all....

Maybe a silly question, why does it seem to me that Gordon is much better off after he became bankrupt?

$55,000 odd after tax income in bankruptcy also sounds a lot to me.

The OP has a resolution to the problem through entry into bankrupty so is no longer relevent

Since this issue has reached a conclusion closing unless anyone has a relevent update to avoid ongoing advice to outdated issue
