What.No bow ties.o_O:eek::D:D;)
Funny you should say that. Ponant has 'formal' nights, even on expedition cruises and so MrLtL did take a bow tie. Not a suit though - just dark trousers and a jacket. People did comment that he looked 'spiffy'. There were a few suits and even dinner suits worn and some of the female passengers were in long dresses.

Im with Mr FM. 2 tshirts and something with a collar (or something nicer for the ladies that goes with flight outfit)

I dont mind hand washing if I have to, I can travel with very, very little.

On the other hand .... washing every night on cruises plus there are wasting machines. ;) Bon Voyage!
Edit, I meant he’ll do his washing of course.
This was part of the conversation- me “I have no intention of washing clothes every second day”. We had an early split of duties - I wash, he irons.

we are eating one night at the Chateaux and Relais restaurant and jacket is required. It was like drawing teeth to get him to put a jacket in - no tie required fortunately. I don’t believe there are any formal nights, so I don’t have any dresses that are remotely evening, although I have one long dress, but it is pretty informal. I am planning on taking some jewellery, which I don’t normally do when I travel.

Actually I’m with MrFM here. MtLtL only takes a couple of shirts for dinners, wears polos etc the rest of the time. :)
except there weren’t any polos either. His entire packing was 4 short sleeved t-shirts for wearing in Santiago and as an extra layer for warmth and 4 shirts,

He always does this when he doesn’t want to do something- it’s passive resistance. I think he is very nervous about the boat, but he will be fine once he’s on it.

Do you have time to hit an Op Shop and buy a jacket when you get there or order online and pick up on the way?

Did this last trip, did a online click and collect order for some items so I didnt have to haul it all the way to EU.

Edit: Our last hotel was a suite with laundry as I hate travelling with dirty clothes/dont pack a lot of clothing.

But really a nice pair of black pants will serve many purposes and a sparkly top makes it quite formal.

not really - we are on a pretty tight schedule. Plenty of room for a jacket, he was just being difficult.

Even after me making him add a whole lot of shirts he only has 16kg and that includes all the ice gear. I have no intention of spending lots of time in a laundry - dirty clothes don’t worry me :) :)

i am a bit with Mr FM - I don’t really understand dressing up - maybe should stick to Safaris. I have a couple of pairs of black pants already , so have just thrown in a sparkly top - that’s a useful idea.

We just send things to the ship laundry - simples
Would it surprise anyone that I rarely send anything to the ship laundry other than ‘the other half’s’ stuff. I much prefer to rinse as I go. Thank goodness after 2 weeks travel our ship in May has free laundries and includes all the soaps and softeners etc. Sad to say but it will get a work out fairly soon after we board..... no ironing though.

Yep. I always budget for hotel laundry if time permits but found this online. Looks like someone took a drybag and made it into a wash bag.
Geez. Between this and the Bellroy, the compression bags - I gotta ask - do you get commissions from these people?:D

isnt that expensive? I am always too stingy to use hotel laundry services.
Have to agree there. Although does depend on the article. I find ‘smalls’, Sox etc to be ridiculously overpriced but shirts esp those that need ironing, to be well priced.

Ships laundries have ruined a few things so we take turns riding shotgun on our stuff in the passenger laundry and /or run our own laundry "system" in the cabin.

people’s priorities are funny aren’t they. I mean I am quite happy to pay for F or J, see value in game reserves at $5,000+ per night but paying for a shirt to be laundered when I can do it myself seems wildly extravagant :)

Marina Bay I once paid about $25 for a $20 tshirt to be cleaned

I totally get that although I’m probably not into the same league. I’m feeling a little queasy about our 18 day Egypt/Israel/Jordan trip which will be fully escorted (think multiple armed guards as well as archeologists), a Cruise, alcohol at meals, most meals, internal flights, for $1,500 a day. Actually, it’s a bargain when I put it like that!

In Jumeirah Beach hotel in Dubai we paid $25 for two cans of coke. I said at the desk that there was no alcohol involved. A bit bummed as we had a club room and in the club those drinks were free.
