Another setback for Boeing.

A "pitch event"

Of all things that could be wrong, this one sounds probably the worst possible. I suspect it's unrelated to what happened to the Max but boy- it sounds eerily familar!

An vague article that throws a bit of random mud. The 777 is fully FBW, so I very much doubt that it's anything like the MAX event. Without knowing the circumstances of the event, it's impossible to tell if it's minor or major. The FAA are going to give Boeing an incredibly hard time, basically because they were conned by them previously.

The 777 is also a class that didn't originally go through the "old fashion" testing regime but computer simulations, it was the first Boeing aircraft type to be accredited this way (ref Flying Safe Flying Blind by Mary Schiavo, now a past Inspector General US DOT). I book I highly recommend.

I can understand why the 777 might be getting some scrutiny.

Boeings woes with the Starliner spacecraft also come back to simulation rather than testing. Elon Musk doesn’t mind blowing something up, and even though he was given half the money that Boeing got, his vehicle is now in service, whilst the Boeing hasn’t even successfully completed one test flight.

Boeing were also let off the hook re having to do an actual abort test….’cos they’d simulated it. SpaceX did the real thing. I know which vehicle I’d rather ride on.
