Another Qantas beat-up

Obviously 1+1 = 19.

At least he did check the average aircraft age (which most journos don't care about), but then failed to see the correlation between aircraft "incidents" and flying.

A rehash of a lot of things reported recently, but no real new news or insights, so he’s basing this on a bad experience he had I’m guessing.

As he’s from the Sunshine Coast, maybe his beef would be better pointed at JQ.

I'm surprised to see the majority of comments posted so far are actually supportive of the red roo (or rather, critical of the editorial).

It's our Australian innate sense of fairness.:p
I am the first to agree with those that complain of costs or service on QF.Maintenance and the mostly minor incidents reported in the press are certainly a different subject.A quick search can produce thousands of similiar incidents over a year with QF certainly not one of the biggest offenders.

Yes, a bashing article in the first degree, and the exact reason why I have a problem with the number of nonews articles being published. As it's the quantity not the contents of the nonews articles which is showing bias which is doing the damage given most readers don't know the difference between something minor and something major, they just see the word qantas in the headlines and that clicks a little counter over in their head.

Good to see the comments where a little more balanced.

There was a very pro-QF articale on Sunrise this morning. They asked exactly the question we have been asking - is this real news or not. I am not sure who the expert was (not a QF staffer) but they said exactly what we have been saying - airlines have problems - this is very common.

Which leads us back to the issue of biased media reporting......

I disagree... I'd call this a PR move...

Bias reporting would be Sunrise only ever talking about how DJ has problems, but failing to mention their relationship with DJ's largest competitor.

It's not bias to only present one side of the story??? Right-o then.:confused::confused:

Agree that it's PR - which is another name for bias reporting (good side only).

I bet there will be song about big bad QF soon:

Musician demands flight compo | Courier Mail

IT was the first time Brisbane songstress Emma Dean had to surrender her violin on a plane and the forced act and subsequent damage has sparked a dispute with Qantas.

Well that's pretty dumb of whoever told her to hand over the violin in BNE. But the article did never give the reason why the handover was demanded in the first place.

Oh cough - they best be careful. She's very well known in professional musical circles in Australia and around the world.

And she can be quite vocal about stuff that pisses her off.

Just received this from QF.

Qantas has recently experienced major disruptions to our international network. You may have been affected directly or indirectly by the disruptions, or seen the media coverage and speculation about Qantas safety and maintenance standards.

As one of our valued customers, I wanted to be in touch with you directly about this. I want to apologise if you were affected personally by the disruptions. I know that Easter is a special opportunity to unite family and friends, and I sincerely regret any frustration and anxiety you may have experienced due to the delays.

We hate disappointing our customers and we do all we can to rectify matters when things go wrong.

I also want to give you my personal assurance that you can continue to fly Qantas with confidence. Despite some sensational coverage recently, safety was never an issue. There were mechanical issues, but they did not represent safety threats. We always respond conservatively to any mechanical or performance issue, and we always put safety before schedule.

Every year the Qantas Group carries 38 million passengers to their destinations safely and home again. We continue to invest in the best fleet, product and service and in being a great Australian company. All of us at Qantas want to thank you for your loyalty and we look forward to giving you a warm welcome when next you fly.

Yours sincerely
I hope they run it in the newspapers as well as send it to their FF's.

So why was it gate checked? Was it because she had too many bags for the allowance? Were the overhead lockers full?

I suspect the former, but of course with only half of the story can't be sure!

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story

I'm a violinist and got on a Qantas flight this morning with four other musicians who were holding violins and a viola

the first of us tried to board and was stopped because the case was larger than the bag dimension box

so, we took it to the customer service desk
we were served with the ultimatum - if we didn't let them put our instruments into the cargo hold, we were not allowed onto the flight

naturally, we refused to comply and they were preparing to take our checked-in luggage off the plane

before it came to that, the pilot agreed to let us on

this is the first time this issue has come up with me or my friends on a Qantas flight, and odd considering what happened not even a week ago

the flight crew were apologetic when we were finally let on board - there was plenty of room for all our instruments in the overhead compartments

Tripvan, firstly welcome to AFF.

If your instruments exceed the dimensions of carry on then I am not sure what the issue is, just because you have been allowed to break the rules before does not make it right, please correct me if I am wrong but an airline cracking down and starting to police rules does not put them in the wrong?

There plenty of room for many illegal things in the overhead lockers, does not mean its OK to put such things in them? Maybe its time for you to check you important baggage in and take steps to make sure its protected from damage like the rest of us do with our instruments, music or scientific.

Sorry if I sound harsh, it seems that rules have been broken up until now to allow you to do things you should not, and frankly now that they are being enforced I see no reason to complain.
