Another Disappointment with my $1200 p.a. Amex Platinum Charge Card

Is that a standard thing or from threatening to cancel the card? How many points are we talking?

Check the threatening to cancel amex thread.

However, I mess with Amex on my spend to purposely and only put certain transactions on the card.
One transaction at a hotel in each city I visit, minimal flight spend, no groceries, no rates or insurance. Amex are the leaders in big data analysis and part of this is tracking what they think you are NOT spending on the card to figure out your potential worth, which - bumps up your value ;)

Agree, but my card is $950 PA (Professional association) and I easily eke out $950 worth of benefits due to my travel schedule.
Are you talking about the charge card or the platinum edge credit card? I am not aware of any PA that offers the charge card...

I was looking at my PA offers yesterday and they offered the platinum charge at AUD950pa. I am looking at the platinum edge for free for the first year and then AUD149pa after that.

Coincidentally, the lounge just got a fairly average review as well: What's The Amex Centurion Lounge Sydney Like? - One Mile at a Time

Huh? Says it compares favourably to US Amex lounges - just doesn't compare to QANTAS First Class lounge, which is hardly a surprise given that Sydney is a QANTAS home port (aka has a flagship lounge), and anyone can "buy" entry into the Amex lounge just by having a Platinum amex card (issued by just about anyone), whereas you need to be flying F (or more likely OWE) to get into the QF lounge.

To quote your own words, "Huh?".

That being said, I was surprised to see that this lounge even compared unfavorably to the US versions of the Centurion Lounge

Anyone can buy their way into the FLounge... just buy a ticket.
