Half-way through a recent DONE4, booked thru AA, and linked to AAdvantage, I needed to call QF Premium desk to get 2 seats allocated together. I was hesitant as I made the call, as in the past when I have added my QF number to my bookings, the points have gone whereever. However, this was a JFK-SYD flight, and it was full, and we didn't really want to sit alone in the middle row.

As expected, and despite the boarding passes all containing AA numbers, the point allocation went like this:

PRG-LHR - QF
LHR-YVR - QF
YVR-JFK - AA (btw, good flight, like the new CX J, altho a a bit strange not been able to see out windows on take-off!)
JFK-SYD - QF, but entered as an award flight by QF (don't know why, as it wasn't), so no points

I know that there are already threads about this topic, but the ones I found mostly seem to be "what to do when QF have removed points, but AA won't apply them" (eg simongr).

I don't need the status on either AA or QF (courtesy of a nice comping by QF last month), but I would prefer the points to be with AA as they are arguably more valuable there.

Any suggestions - is it worth having QF remove the points, and then contact AA re missing points? If I get QF to remove them, and then AA won't add them, I am a bit worried that they may be left in limbo.

Or should I just leave them where they are (subject to fixing the no-points on JFK-SYD)?

On a separate matter, on a separate DONE4 done earlier this year, points for 2 QF domestic flights and a LAN international weren't credited to my AA account. I sent the electronic notification to AA, and got the "we have received" email straight back, but haven't heard anything since, and it has been about 7 weeks now. Is this normal?

I gave up after two attempts at getting AA to apply the points - mostly due to laziness and not bothering to call the EXP desk. However I was able to get QF to put the points and SCs back after providing them evidence that AA had not applied the points.

My advice would be the following (note some steps not undertaken by me):

1 - Call qf and get the points reversed - ask for email evidence
2 - Apply for points online at AA (I tried getting the EXP desk to do it but they just directed me to customer services)
3 - Wait for the rejeciton letter from AA and reply to them sending them the info from QF
4 - Call EXP desk to see if they can now sort given the rejection letter and your response
5 - If EXP cant hlep go back to QF to get recredited

Do you think that you struck out with AA because you did 2 before you did 1 ??

I actually do not recall if I did one before the other - I will check my email to see if I have a sequence.

Reason I ask, is this is what I did 3 DONE4's ago, earlier in the year - points posted to QF, then I contacted AA, and got the rejection letter, which I didn't follow up. So am hoping that AA give a different answer if they see that the points are already gone before I apply....

Well I requested the reversal on around 27 Jul - 2 days after the flight so I would not have made the claim by then. The points were reversed on 3 August - still dont think I had made the claim by then.
