I noticed BITRE have just released their domestic airline activity for January.

The busiest route for the month was MEL-OOL. Notably MEL-SYD is still languishing at #13, although with the impact of the Northern Beaches outbreak and Vic imposing severe travel restrictions with NSWduring January, one would expect that by the time the March figures come out it would have recovered and be close to reclaiming top spot.

Of the top 50 routes, two had grown compared to Jan 2020 (SYD-BNK + 15.4%) and MEL-MCY (+0.6%), whilst MEL-SYD was down 95.5%

Top 10 was:
MEL/OOL
MEL/BNE
BNE/CNS
MEL/HBA
MEL/ADL
SYD/BNK
BNE/TSV
MEL/LST
MEL/MCY
MEL/CNS

MEL/LST is not surprising, QF have more than doubled their capacity into LST and seem to keep adding flights, upgraded to jets and have just hoovered up all the remnants of VA's old customers on this route. JQ has also had a very strong presence.

VA2 doesn't have the right aircraft for Tassie to be competitive.

I put money on VA2 contracting Tassie out to Alliance if they can.
