Accor is getting better in my experience with both recognition of status and points posting.
But still very deceptive with their emails.

Free breakfast for 2 and up to 40% off at over 520 Mercure hotels.

Tried booking Chiang Mai Mercure only 30% off and no breakfast.

... and also Accor are pretty finicky about how the room is booked; they try hardtop direct all bookings to their web site. Often a particular hotel will try to refuse all points if booked via a TA, even if the TA uses your own credit card.

Friends and Family rates no longer count either, so I'm losing status and my points are due to expire...

Wasn't impressed with that sale email; couldnt find any of the sales as advertised.

I got the Novotel Darling Harbour Sydney 40% off and free breakfast.
And we got a room upgrade when checking in. Plus 2 free drinks.
Happy with that!

What brand? I've really not seen any difference since I've gone to Gold with the exception of fruit or chocolate left in my room. Considering I don't eat either, it's pretty useless.

Interestingly this week I got a letter in my room at King George Square saying no upgrades were available and then at Mercure Gold Coast I was given an upgrade. So certainly some more recognition with my Gold status.

My previous stays where I got zero recognition about an upgrade were Pullman Cologne, Mercure Checkpoint Charlie and Novotel Parramatta.
