I recently redeemed United MileagePlus miles for a BKK-CBR booking in J. The first leg was from BKK to MEL on Thai Airways. Unfortunately, there were no same-day connections available from MEL to CBR, so I ended up booking BKK-MEL-BNE-CBR (flying Virgin Australia on the domestic legs).

Out of the blue, yesterday I got an email from United advising of a "change" to my booking. They had rebooked me on BKK-MEL-CBR, removing the need to backtrack via BNE. This actually works much better for me but wasn't available as an option when I booked.

The thing I don't quite understand is why United made this change. Both the MEL-BNE and BNE-CBR flights are still running exactly as scheduled. Anyway, I'm not complaining! 🤷‍♂️

You should wait for the other shoe to drop before celebrating 😖

Not sure I follow? The new booking seems to be ticketed correctly and the flights are more convenient for me.

I didn't receive a refund of the difference in taxes, which would have been around $30, but whatever.
