I dropped my iPhone while I was away and cracked the screen. I got a quote from Apple and put the claim into my travel insurance which paid it promptly without any queries. I made an appointment to get the screen fixed and when I went in they said that will be $319. Now I claimed $290 and I admit it is my fault because I didn't notice the tax not included but I'm sure that in Australia if you're dealing with a customer you have to quote GST inclusive.

Does anyone have any comments or experience

GST has to be included in Australian quotes. That was made law by John Howard and he was adamant. That Invoice is stupid where they say tax will be calculated after the event. Not legal.

It seems fine to do this business to business but they must also state the % GST that will be charged. Which they haven’t done either.

Only quotes from a business exclusively to another business can be GST exclusive (with conditions as per above). If the quote is visible to the public then the B2B quote must be GST inclusive.
Otherwise it must be GST inclusive.

I have also looked at my Genius Bar repair quotes and yes they are GST exclusive in the same manner as the OP.

Most of my repairs have been zero cost even though the warranty period has expired which is the one good thing about Genius Bar repairs in general.

BTW in (hindsight) Apple Care for iphones now include cover for 2 incidents - if its screen related there is an excess of $45 and if any other issue an excess of $149
It does not say whether that is GST inclusive or not. Apple calls them a "service fee"

Rather than write to apple just write to the ACCC.

Its not a technicality
Lots of people/businesses quote GST exclusive without indicating the same. That practice should cease.

I dont want to be like some places in the world eg USA where the labelled price is ex tax and you really dont have any idea what the charged price is.

Dont forget,The airlines have been hit by regulatory action for related antics.
