Hi all - I have a couple of upcoming stays in Wellington and am looking for accommodation options. Preferably a hotel with a lounge for business access and related benefits. Unfortunately no Hiltons or Hyatts, nor any Accor hotels which really fit the bill in WLG (these are my usual chains)

The Amora has a lounge and seems well located. But there's comparatively little written about it on travel sites. Would welcome any views if people have direct experience?

Cheers.

Following because Ive got a club room booked for August.

July and October for me. Still haven't booked yet, and rates are high at both times. But I will report if I end up there.

There's actually a bit more info on TripAdvisor than I thought.

Sorry for late feedback! I had stayed at the Amora back in December.

Generally, a nice hotel. Some room features may seem a touch dated, but a few newer touches in the rooms makes them look more modern. Rooms were clean, wifi was OK.

Location, is a bit out of the main strip but a nice 5-10 minute walk. Large supermarket 5 minute walk the other way a good way to stock up on breakfast supplies if you'd prefer a bowl of cereal over the hotel breakfast.

Overall, I was happy with the hotel. I would stay there again if back in Wellington.

Thanks for that. Changed plans so not headed there in July but am going in October and have booked Amora - non-refundable rate so will be staying there irrespective of further views! - but good to hear your positive comments.

From others that I knew in Wellington at the same time, it was the nicest accommodation out of 4 others who were staying elsewhere. I'm sure you'll enjoy the time there. Te Papa is a minutes walk away and I highly recommend an afternoon spent looking there. Apart from that, dress to stay warm in the winds!

Coming from Tassie and Canberra - cool breezes don't worry me too much. Have to say part of reason for choosing Amora was proximity to Te Papa -- if I get some free time I will pop over.

Denali - if you don't mind me asking - how was the stay?

Im going to say it was fine but I have a few cleaning issues because Im picky (we were there from the 21st to the 26th)

Good:
Club room lounge breakfast was really good, they have a buffet but you can also order from a menu, which we did every day. Eggs Benedict with bacon was very nice, ask for a couple of hash browns with it.
Club room canapes were standard fare but at minibar $5 per can of coke/beer/bottle water, we would help ourselves to lots of bottled water and a few cans per day. Lounge staff was happy to get them for you if not in the ice bin and the icebin was filled up during the day for you to raid.
Room was quite/no street noise and roomy and I was happy to see I could slightly open a window for fresh air (we hate aircon)
Taxi was always available at the front, taxi and uber drivers know where it is easily
Across the road from the waterfront, we had a water view and very close to the Museum. Weekend waterfront markets was good.
Apache Resturant nearby if you want somewhere to go for dinner - I really liked the Twice Cooked Pork dish that I had at lunchtime.
Nice welcome gift of a box of chocolates and daily turn down with choc mints on your pillow (hubby loves a good turn down service with chocs)
The Amora bar/Grill had a 2 for 1 Tuesday so as we were too tired to go anywhere, we took advantage of that and was happy.
Wifi was solid, had to reselect every 24hrs but no issues.

Meh:
Housekeeping needs a shakeup.
Sheer curtains very dirty
Rubbish in bedside tables was there when we checked in and still there 5 days later and bedside tables quite dusty (that horrible black, shiny furniture)
Bed was uncomfortable and did not have a bed topper.
What drove me absolutely f'ing nuts was the constant, and I mean daily, 20 questions from the lounge manager every morning and every evening. Drove me nuts. Yes I know its her job to be personable but by morning 3 I was ready to snap at her and my husband took over talking to her/them because I couldnt stand it anymore.

I would stay there again if I had to but there are a lot of other hotels nearby. I actually was happy with the Rydges (or maybe my expectation on lower), and its closer to the CBD and more restaurants but it doesnt have the waterfront views.

The Amora isnt a bad hotel as there are lots of current positive reviews but I do think its at risk of sliding into the "tired" category if they dont address some of the features to update them, like the outdated gold bathroom fixtures, update mattresses, add bed toppers, duct tape the lounge managers mouth every morning :)

Happy we stayed but its not something Im raving about but if I had to stay at this hotel again, I would be OK with that. The benefit of the lounge breakfast and drinks and waterfront was the huge plus.

Thanks for that! Really appreciate the detail. I'm there for less than 48 hours unfortunately but should get the breakfasts and one evening of the canapés if I can escape business on time.

Stayed 2 nights and can pretty much echo Denali's report. Breakfast in lounge great, and I didn't have annoying staff thankfully. Canapes a disappointment as the one night I could partake there were so few people so the food was only upon request - they were tasty but kind of awkward to keep asking. At other times lounge was pretty poor -- little food, no milk, not kept clean. Also pretty uncomfortable with annoying and unnecessarily loud music playing.

Room was fine, location good, staff also fine. Will probably stay there again, but more for convenience than anything.
