Hi, have had this problem before and also found a very old thread on the subject. Seems its still happening.
I looked at a domestic flight one way, economy as more expensive on Amex but not so much and could probably wear it, but that would not cover my credit anyway but the business flight was over $300 more expensive!!!( Also wanting more Sc which may or may not help me get to gold for first -and prob only time ) Remember ringing about similar a few years back and told it was Qantas only prices. However I have already
checked a few sites and most are within a few $$ of Qantas prices!! Anyone else have similar issues in past or is ther a way to get around it? Thanks

As you've noted, this is an old problem that it seems Amex have no intention of rectifying. Really frustrating and makes those Amex QF credits less valuable.

It's not just Qantas, they do the same with our airlines - i have had the same problem with BA tickets.

I had a bit of a rant about it in this thread

I have seen it in the past and from memory it has to do with the fare bucket that AMEX book you into.

It's more to do with QF making the cheapest fares only available via NDC, and Amex hasn't (yet?) set this up.

I'd hope it's coming in the next year or so, a lot of the big corporate TAs have just started jumping onboard.

From what I understand NDC is a relatively new system, some AMEX issues have been around for a few if not many years. IMO AMEX changes their rules and systems from time to time and like many changes in large organisations internal systems are changed/amended and information is not passed on, these things happen. The problem for ‘Jo/e Public’ is the marketing on web sites and the ‘sales pitch’ around the perceived benefits are just not openly updated and are normally buried in a generic email update with a link to updated T’s&C’s.

Why have other third parties been able to sell the cheaper fares (this has been going on for years now) and not Amex if NDC is a new thing?
