Amex Referral Bonus credit time?

Fairly new to Amex CC's, so excuse my ignorance.

I just reffered a mate of mine for Amex Explorer (110k sign up bonus/40k refferal) and got the referral points a couple days after he was approved. I was under the impression they needed to meet the minimum spend before I get credited.

I'm glad I got it sooner than expected, just curious if this is standard though.

I've never known it to be different to this.

Yeah, they won't get their welcome bonus until they meet the conditions, but the referrer bonus routinely pays out within a day or two of card approval.
