AMEX platinum 80000 points

got mine a few weeks ago. The points turned up within a day or so of the first $500 spend. I've transferred to QFF and it says it takes 1 business day to do.

Amex confirmed to me this morning that existing Amex customers are also able to claim the 80000 points offer - I made an enquiry to upgrade from the Gold Charge Card to the Platinum Charge Card.

So after taking up the offer from Amex in May, I found out today that I was not entitled to the bonus points, even though a sales rep advised that I was. The best they could offer was 10k worth of points as a 'sorry' payment.

I have been with Amex for 8 years and I think I'm about to walk away. Really not impressed that the original sales rep had either lied to me or was clearly not up to date on their current bonus offers.

I'm going to send a letter of complaint first and see what happens, but I'm not happy having been promised the points and paying the $900 membership fee!

Which Amex card did you have previously?

Ok. I have a feeling because you had a charge card previously. As the plat 80000 bonus is a charge card. I signed up to the plat charge and got the bonus points coming from an edge card as that was a credit card and not a charge card.

I believe the underlined clause was only introduced last month and does not apply to the earlier offer.

These conditions have been updated recently. In Apil/May, the terms and conditions said something like - available to all new platinum charge cards.

It made no mention of existing customers. I called the platinum sales team and questioned this and the rep clearly stated I was entitled to the bonus points, even though I was already a customer.

SWMBO got a letter yesterday outlining this offer.

Although the card is a dud outside of Hotels, Restaurants, Airfares and Foreign spend - 80,000 MR points for $1,200 is not a bad deal.....I think we'll jump for this one!

Wonder if her CBA DIA Amex will be a handicap for the 80,000 MRP?

I believe not. I have a bank affiliated (ANZ) platinum card and it didn't stop me from applying for some Amex cards earlier this year. Those cards were cancelled in September so just an eight month wait before I can rinse and repeat the process
