Amex increasing Currency Conversion Fee to 3.5% from May 4 2026

One of the things that particularly irritates me about this is that they definitely could remove the fee and it still be worthwhile for them. They've done it in the US (probably other countries too) and made it work out for them just fine. On top of that a whole bunch of Visa and Mastercard cards are able to make it work as well. Given the travel focus of the cards you'd think it would be a no brainer, even if they did keep it on business and corporate cards.

I'm currently in Thailand and AmEx is accepted all over the place, but all my transactions are going through my CommBank Smart Awards card.

I have a US Amex which is Fx free...just saying.
