Amazing.. cancelled both my Plat Charge and the companion Reserve (they offered 23,000 points in total to retain me which I politely declined) and I've now lost access to my eStatements. I was not advised that this would happen (although it's not super unreasonable) so I called to see if they could email me the PDFs. I've only held the cards for 12 months so it'll be 24 PDFs - nothing crazy. I was then advised that it would be $10 a statement. I told them I was not advised of the lost access and / or fee and they're now escalating this. The call centre guy (AU) was pretty cold and short as well. Definitely only calling after-hours from now on and hope for an American rep who've always been far more friendly and knowledgeable.

I lost access to my estatements with HSBC when I was issued a replacement card for a fraud cancellation-was not impressed when they suggested I pay for copies.

Just called up to cancel my Velocity Plat Amex.
was offered 36k to keep the card, which I am thinking about now.. also I can't cancel until the 17th when my auto sweet happens otherwise I lose 5600 points.
My idea for cancelling the card was to take up the explorer card and with any luck get the 100,000MR points and compliment my Plat Edge card.
however I haven't used my free flight and I am not guaranteed to actually get the 100k points really so I might just keep the card, take the points, use the flight and cancel later on and wait for another offer like this.

Absolutely ridiculous.

When I told the guy on the phone that I had been provided incorrect advice by the Customer Service Rep who assisted with my card cancellation, he said I should have read T&Cs when I applied for the card. And he then proceeded to say that human errors occur. Absolutely infuriating that I bear the consequences of their incompetence.

Update: I just took the 36k in points.
I haven't used the free flight as yet so might as well try and use that later in the year. So the points are in my Amex account now and get swept across next Wednesday to Velocity. what if I cancel the card then?

That's quite interesting because when they offered me 60k points across the two cards, I made quite sure that I was under no obligation to keep the cards. I was told I could call the next day to cancel if I liked.

I initially emailed via the online account and was offered 5000 points. When I queried the small number of points offered, I was told that they couldn't offer any more via an online request and that I would need to phone to obtain a better offer (or words to that effect).

Definitely not.

I would imagine refusal to close a paid off credit card would breach at least one consumer finance law.

I cancelled my velocity card before my autosweep, and the point still flowed through at about the time my statement would of been issued. I got a final statement in the mail as well.
