Amex free annual flights

Does anyone know if these Amex complimentary annual return flights earn any points or status? Will it at least count towards the 4 flights required to qualify for Gold?

If the answer is no, I might as well credit them to UA or AC as the booking class is eligible and I see no reason why they wouldn't credit.

The Amex free flight is for Virgin Australia domestic flights only and only valid for selected destinations based on your home port. To use you book on a dedicated booking platform or call a dedicated number.

I think the point being to make the booking of the comp flight but then change the FF program attached to the booking for points earning purposes.

I don’t know if this will work as VA may block them from earning on any program, not just their own.

The answer is still no.
These flights have a payment type of IT and a value of $0.00 on the confirmation.
Any partner would need to valid earn with Velocity / Virgin and the answer would remain as … No

But partner earning is based on booking class not the value of ticket.

T class is listed as a valid fare for earning Velocity points and it doesn’t actually earn. The “IT” payment overrides.
A partner airline has to validate in the same manner.
Feel free to try it out. But no one has ever posted this as a hack.

FYI as an example if you purchase a Singapore Airlines fare and use KrisFlyer points as part of payment you don’t earn Velocity points whatsoever even though the ticket would be issued as the normal fare class. They cross validate the payment methods.

As you know, domestic travel earning is based on the ticket price not booking class. I am surprised no one has reported this but I sure will do once I have flown.

It doesn’t earn status credits either which has nothing to do with the ticket price.

I expect you can’t “unlink” from Velocity. The credit card is a Velocity benefit, not a Virgin Australia benefit.

Already replaced the FFP number with my AC number and the booking dropped from my VA app. Will report back what happens.

I have now flown my return free flights and can report that they did credit to my AC account and are status qualifying (SQM & SQS).

I kind of hope that they’ll scrap these flights and just give us a credit, a la QF. Easier to redeem without a special infrastructure and you can pick a fare of your, ahem, “choice”.
