Recently signed up for a Plat Charge card and have found a few good deals on Amex FHR.

I've read mixed information about whether FHR bookings are eligible for points and status nights with hotel loyalty programs. Could anyone with first hand experience (especially if Hilton, Accor or Marriott) let me know what they've found?

Also interested to hear experiences on Amex Travel (non FHR) bookings.

I suspect - but am not certain - that whether or not you can earn native hotel points/status for a stay booked through Amex Travel, depends on whether you pay Amex Travel (no earn) or the hotel directly (earn). This would mean that both Fine Hotels & Resorts and the Hotel Collection - which are flexible rates and have you pay the hotel directly on arrival - would earn. Also FHR/HC provide a place to enter your loyalty number and in my experience it's usually successfully linked to the hotel chain's systems (reservation appearing immediately in my Honors or Bonvoy account) so that may be the key.

I booked FHR stays at least 3 with times with Hyatt that I recall, and was awarded points etc as per usual. The free FHR room upgrade at my last stay got us the ambassador suite which was fantastic. Plus, the included USD$100 account credit was able to be used for room service which I don't recall being allowable previously.

Thanks for the info! Out of curiosity, which Hyatt did you get the suite upgrade at?

Park Hyatt Melbourne. I checked the pricing at the time (was in Nov IIRC) out of curiosity , and at that time the best rate I could find on the ambassador suite was $2700/night. So was a pretty big upgrade. I have been upgraded on every FHR stay, but none so generous as this one.

Anyone have their room upgraded from a Deluxe King to a Suite with their stay at Park Hyatt Melbourne booked under AMEX FHR recently. That would be nice!

My recent FHR and Hotel Collection experiences are not that nice. The only time I got upgraded a room was during covid at TASMAN in Hobart. Other hotels (in Australia) booked through FHR they all shared the same excuse: we are fully booked, and refused the upgrade.

Were they actually fully booked?

When hotels try pull that stunt with me I just see what I can book online. If I see a better room available I'll show that to the check-in agent. Suddenly an upgrade happens.

Not at all! There are still plenty of rooms available.

That's a excellent idea, I should try that next time.

Do you check for a better room availability on the spot?
Yes. To be honest, I usually prepare myself and will have a quick look on the way to the hotel if in an Uber/taxi.

If they still give you uphill, grab a screenshot and report it to Amex. They're unlikely to compensate you, but I'd imagine it's good feedback.

My FHR experiences have always been pretty good. Only once, at The Jefferson in Richmond VA was I told no better rooms available. Showed the check-in agent that heaps were. I got some lame excuse along the lines that she had only started her shift, but upgrade me to the next level room, which happened to be a suite.

Any one had hotel status credited when booking via Hotel Collection? Been hearing mix stories on this, not sure if its worth trying out as we have a trip coming up.

I should probably update my own thread with some success stories of receiving elite benefits/status nights/points when booked through FHR - so here they are:

Conrad Tokyo - paid on arrival
Conrad Singapore - paid on arrival
Biltmore London - prepaid, partially with travel credit

I haven't tried booking via The Hotel Collection yet.

Can confirm that the Hilton Melbourne prepaid hotel collection rate worked for me, got the nights + HH points. Recognised me as Diamond as well.
