I agree. I just distributed my points amongst Virgin Velocity, Etihad Guest, Asia Miles, and Krisflyer. Was left with 500 points. I have added the dates in an Excel spreadsheet as well as Calendar reminders for the Expiry of these points.

I find that Award Wallet works well for keeping track of these kinds of things. :)

Interesting...so a couple of weeks back I mentioned how I had successfully chased Amex up for an approx 500k points adjustment (bunch of txs that didn't post points). That took some time to actually go through but it finally did, 4 days before D-Day.

...logged in today and lo and behold, another credit points adjustment of close to 500k!

Doubled-up travel credits, a 80k plat charge signup bonus I wasn't meant to get, and now another free half-mil (even if they don't carry the value they used to). Guess Amex is rewarding my loyalty with multiple 'accidents' :p

Go buy a Powerball ticket!
You'll probably win that too :p:p:p

Lounge access in MEL/SYD when flying Y is a great reason to hold onto this card (especially when your days of premium travel are numbered and you can't generate points fast enough to ensure all travel is in J/F).

The charge card already has unlimited access to those lounges though?

Do you know if I purchased the phone using Explorer, and now have the Charge, will it be transferable to the PC card? or I need to hold the Explorer card?
I have been wondering the same, if I cancel and just keep the essential card will the insurance transfer. (Paid the phone plan charges using the explorer, now it’s fully paid off)

From memory last time I looked at the pds it was the card that you used to buy the phone, or the monthly payments were coming from.

I'm fairly sure the way it is set up is the Insurance Policy (not administered my AmEx, mind you, it's administered by Chubb) would be tied to the Card account that was used to purchase the phone outright (or used to pay the monthly payments), and that's hard-locked. Cancelling the Card account causes cancellation of the Insurance policy. Pretty sure the PDS would state this too.

PS: IANAL, and have never claimed for screen insurance on my Explorer. The info I've posted is simply my understanding, based from perusing many a thread and information regarding the insurance.

I've claimed before. Chubb needs to either see the purchase outright on the statement or if it is on a monthly plan, then the plan has to state which type of phone it is and it has to match the phone you are claiming for.

if you bought outright then you won't be able to carry it over to the Charge card.

ive claimed before,
it was a surpisringly easy process
They want you to confirm which transaction your credit card was, and a recipet of purchase,

I assume the card has to be active, because hthey probably confirm with amex, but I guess even if you cancelled the card, you might still be covered if chubb dont match up details,

also I paid by paypal, and was still covered

I paid for my phone outright, so now I kind of have to keep holding the Explorer if I can't pass the insurance... might check with Amex what can be done.... Thanks!

If you’ve got your phone on a SIM only ‘contract’, you might be able to switch the form of monthly payment (and wear the Amex surcharge) to your charge and once you’ve covered the waiting period (I think it’s 3 months), your charge will cover you. Best to check the PDS or call Chubb to clarify this.

The insurance isn’t that great, to warrant keeping the Explorer is it? Excess is 10%, the extra points and redemption rates would likely outweigh the loss of insurance if you were considering charge anyway?

Already have a Charge, contemplating IFM it’s worth keeping the Explorer as wont use it any more
