A reminder that anyone posting a referral link must follow the guidelines specified in the sticky at the start of the referral sub-forum.

Specifically:

Update 31 March 2015: Just to be 100% clear. Both the Referrer and Referee must receive the benefit which needs to be clearly defined, transparent and stated in the post. Links to "affiliate-type" sites where the Referrer receives an incentive/bonus, and there is no clear benefit to the Referee for using that link is not acceptable.

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

Planning a big trip next year for our Wedding/Honeymoon. Signed up Mrs fairbasa and my brother as a kind points donor, so we have 3 Explorers now.

To give an example of how useful these 3x Explorer cards sign-on points are, here's what we booked below. We transferred from Amex MR points->SPG->Marriott and booked 5 nights or more to maximise value with the 5th Night Free credit.

LocationHotelNightsPoints Used
AMEX MR/SPG/Marriott
Cost if Paid With Cash
(AUD)
Redemption Value
(AUD cents / MR pt)
New YorkThe New York Edition6133.3k/66.7k/200k$4,061.793.05c/pt
CancunJW Marriott Cancun5106.7k/53.3k/160k$2,267.582.13c/pt

Total16346.6k/173.3k/520k$9,319.272.69c/pt
With 3x Explorers, we got 3x sign-on bonus of 110k + 2x referral bonus of 20k = 370k total MR points. With these redemptions, I value each card's 110k sign-on bonus at $2,959 of value! With 2MR points/$ for ongoing spend, we're getting an average of 5.38c per $ back in hotel booking value too.

We'll spend the 3x $400 of travel credits on internal flights and tour bookings, nullifying the annual fees. Travel insurance and smart phone screen insurance are just added bonuses. Let alone the ongoing Amex statement credit offers which we used to get $300 back on a recent $700 wine purchase for a party amongst others!

We'd never be able to afford to stay in such nice hotels if it wasn't for these Explorer cards. Many thanks AMEX for such a great product and helping soften the cost of the Wedding!

Feel free to use my sign-up here: http://amex.com.au/refer/samfgwQE

Disclaimer: You get 110k MR points, I get a 20k referral reward

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

If you are into Marriott redemption, Hotel + Miles package is great value. You can pool SPG points into one account if those accounts use the same address for at least 30 days. ie your family has 2 cards and transfer to SPG and get 55,000 points in each account then do a family transfer and get 110,000 in one account. Then transfer to Marriott and get 330,000 Marriott points.

7 hotel nights plus miles is best value starting from 270,000 points in cat 1-5 to 540,000 points for tier 4-5. 330,000 points will get you 7 nights in Cat 7 + Airline miles.

You get 132,000 miles if you choose United or 120,000 miles for AA, BA, AC, Alaska, Delta etc. Less miles with some other airlines. More miles when airlines do hotel transfer bonus.

Transferring direct to airlines from SPG could get you more miles but some cannot beat Marriott hotel + miles value especially when there is a bonus.

For some destinations, you could easily get 2 return business class tickets ie using United to South East Asia (30,000 miles for 1-way in J). Even better, buy a bit more United miles (when on sale) or transfer more Marriott points (or both) and get 2 return F tickets (40,000 miles 1-way). 1-way first class ticket to Japan using United or AA is 60,000 miles. HKG J one way on CX using Alaska is 30,000 miles... etc If you get signup bonus from 2 cards, you could get close to $4000 value or more per card with some redemption.

Hi All,

I have been using this 'perky' card for the last 3 months and am pretty impressed with the features and point ear rate. Have started re-directing all possible spend to this card.

Here is my referral link for anyone wanting to use: http://amex.com.au/refer/3WJtL

New customers who join through the above link receive 110,000 Membership Rewards points if they apply by 30 January 2017, are approved for a American Express Explorer[SUP]TM[/SUP] Credit Card, and spend $1,500 in their first 2 months of Card Membership And I wi
ll receive 20,000 Membership Rewards points.

Thanks

Re: Your Karma balance will reward you too. AMEX best offer IMO.

Big thanks to the person who used my referral.

20,000 MR points will take some beating for my favorite Xmas present this year.

Just got my new Explorer card. Very excited about this card. Mainly for the 1SPG point per $ spent. But plenty of value to be had with 1.5 airline miles per $ (possibly even 2 airline miles per $ if your lucky!)

There is plenty of great info on getting the best out of this card on this thread and site. I am excited and hopeful about unlinking and linking my Gateway and Ascent program cards to hopefully get the 110,000 points as an existing cardholder and then get 2 airline points/miles per $1 spent after that. I am also excited about transferring to SPG then Marriott for their flights and stay offers, Alaskan Airline miles here we come.

I wanted to share a tip to anyone signing up for this card to derive even more value from the card. If you find this useful I'd very much appreciate you using my referral link:

It is possible to add yourself as a supplementary card holder, I just did this with Amex. When you add yourself as a supplementary card holder it is called an "Account Card" or "A/C" card. I have one of these on my Gold Charge card as well. I did this with my initials rather than full name to tell the cards apart.

Why would you do this?

1. When I called up to add myself as my first of 4 free supplementary card holder I asked if they were still offering the 5,000 bonus points for adding an additional card holder. The lady went off and checked and said yes that wasn't a problem. These points have already been added to my account and I haven't even used the card yet.
2. One of the best things about Amex at the moment is their Statement Credit offers. I have saved a couple of thousand dollars from the cashbacks this year. Shop small, Harvey Norman, HCF, David Jones, Langtons, Westfield and Myer to name a few. Never hurts to have as many Supplementary cards as possible especially in your own name especially when this card comes with 4 free supplementaries.
3. The reason behind an A/C card is you set up all your direct debits on this card and then keep it safe at home somewhere separate from your other card/wallet. Then if you lose your wallet you don't need to change over all of your direct debits.

There are some great tips on this site on how to get the most out of this card, make sure you subscribe to these threads:

Amex Statement Credits have saved me thousands this year.

For when your annual fee is approaching call and ask them "What have you done for me lately?" I got 84,000 points to keep my American Express Gold Charge Card. The annual fee is only $130!!

Hope everyone is able to get some value from the above. Any queries please let me know.

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

Hi All,

I have been using this great Explorer card for everyday spend and is really happy with the points earn rate. Really a must have card in your wallet. I am pretty new to the whole 'Points Hunt' concept but have effectively used this card to pay my utilities bills through Paypal (normally my energy provider does not accept Amex and also charge a service fee for Visa card payments). By using Amex through Paypal, I am now collecting almost 500 points per month without any service changes.

Here is my referral link for anyone wanting to use: http://amex.com.au/refer/3WJtL

Happy to help if any queries on the card.

New customers who join through the above link receive 110,000 Membership Rewards points if they apply by 30 January 2017, are approved for a American Express Explorer[SUP]TM[/SUP]Credit Card, and spend $1,500 in their first 2 months of Card Membership And I will receive 20,000 Membership Rewards points.

Thanks

A big thankyou to my fellow AFFer who used my link.

Ok, I need the help of the experts on the forum!

Last night I applied and everything was fine until the balance transfer screen. I entered in the details of the BT and clicked submit. Nothing happened. Refreshed and tried again. Nothing. No error, same screen - nothing changed. Wake up this morning to an email from Amex, thanks for your application. We just need to check your income. Thinking no application went through I ring them. Application was submitted but no evidence of BT. I ask if they can add it on - nope. Will need a new application. So they cancel my application and ask me to do it again.

Tonight I have done it again (today on a desktop machine, last night on mobile) and exactly the same thing happens at the same point. Clearly there is an issue with their website. I ring and get the same response. I say I am not doing it again. Overseas call center useless.

I want to give one of you lovely people some points but now want an Australian contact at Amex so I don't waste my time doing it again! Any ideas?

That is a strange one, I didn't do a BT when I applied for the card. Perhaps call during business hours and get an Aussie rep and see what they have to say.

Google Chrome browsers often fix issues when I have issues with a website, not sure if that will help though given you had problems on the mobile too.
Also be sure to check your Veda file when you are all done and approved you don't want to have multiple inquiries on there.
Good luck with the application

Hi all,

Here is my referral code if anyone is feeling generous :)

http://amex.com.au/refer/archij708Q?CPID=100199915

This was/is my first AMEX which I've had since September 2016.
The reason its turned into my favourite card to use is for the simple fact that points earning is uncapped.
Some of the other AMEX cards might give you higher points/$ however its only at selected merchants and sometimes capped at a max limit per year.

The beauty of the explorer is a constant 2pts/$1 and no cap!

As previously mentioned, if you use my link (or any of the others here) you shall get an extra 10k points and I shall get a 20k bonus :D

TIA :)
