Evening

I'm travelling this weekend from LHR to NYC with AA, flight AA105 (BOEING 777) in D class.

Anyone familiar with this service, what are the seats like, entertainment, food etc?

Never flown with AA internationaly.

Best wishes
Nick

Not sure if it helps you Nick as I am not sure if NM was referring to a Boeing 777 but he posted something about AA J class in the AA Platinum challenge - tips thread.

As does finding a nice daytime AA flight. BA Club is good when you need to sleep, but the AA J seats are more comfortable for sitting in my experience. And AA international J food is as good as BA - just remember FEBO and you should be right.

The seats are fairly wide and they do have a decent 60" pitch except in the front row. Service can be v variable . For a daytime flight AA is fairly reasonable

The AA J seats on the 777 are the same as on the 767-300 and as Dave points out the pitch is 60 inches (compare with QF Dreamtime at 50 inches). So there is plenty of room to get out from the window seat to the aisle even with the aisle passenger fully reclined and sleeping.

These seats are very comfortable for sitting and recline further than QF Dreamtime seats. But if you want 180 degrees of recline you have to find a way of getting into the F cabin.

The IFE is a multi-channel loop system similar to QF's non-AVOD, with the screen swinging up from the front of the arm rest.

All J seats have in-seat power provided by car cigarette lighter style plugs, which work with the Targus travel power adapters for most laptop computers.

Remember to select your seat based on FEBO, which is where the meal order is taken from the Front on Even flight numbers, and from the Back on Odd numbered flights. On long flights where there are multiple meal services, the first is FEBO and the second is the reverse. And they will run out of at least one meal choice by the time they get to the passengers who did not observe FEBO when reserving seats.

Thanks NM. So, I'm on AA105 therefore I need to be geting a seat towards the back of the J class cabin?

If you want to ensure your choice for the first meal service. A good ploy for multi-meal flights is to be in the middle of the cabin so you get some choice for both meal services. Its quite possible that a very popular choice may have been consumed before the people in the middle of the cabin get to lodge their request, but I am willing to take that risk and have generally found I am happy with at least two of the choices on AA international flights in business class.

I'm waitlisted on a BA flight for travel on the same date / time etc, ie this weekend.

Question is, do I try to chase the BA flight down or stay on the AA flight.

What's better by opinion?

Cheers

For the daytime flight, I would prob stick with the AA flight; quite comfortable for that; if it was a night flight I would make the effort to get on BA for the beds

Where are u collecting FF miles to, since if crediting to BA or AA there would be an issue with points earning ( i.e. no miles earned on the BA flight for AA members and vice versa )

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In my experience, as a QF FF member there is nothing you can do to encourage BA (or AA for that matter) to clear a waitlist. What is the waitlisted flight showing for other class availability? If its showing zero availability for other fare classes in the same cabin, then there is little chance of a waitlist clearing.

Sometimes a travel agent is able to call the airline and request they reconsider the waitlist, but even that is unlikely to have aby effect in my experience.
