This has now been confirmed in Singapore:

(Reuters) - Airbus (AIR.PA) is putting the finishing touches on an order worth up to $8 billion for A380 superjumbos from Doric Lease Corp, sources close to the deal said on Tuesday, as the leasing company also prepares to change its brand.
Doric Lease Corp, which first announced a provisional order for 20 A380s at the Paris Airshow last June, told Reuters it was changing its name to "Amedeo," but declined to comment on the progress of the airplane order.
The company has said it aims to complete the deal in the first quarter as part of a strategy to become a new industry player specializing in wide-body aircraft.
Airbus sales chief John Leahy earlier told a news conference that he hoped to make an A380 order announcement during the Asia's largest aerospace event, which opened on Tuesday.

They obviously see a market for the aircraft

Or they have a customer that does not want to make it obvious what their plans are, such as a North American Airline?

Or potentially replacements for early adoptors of the model who leased the airframes on about a 10-12 year term.

Depends on the slots, Airbus has 2015 delivery available.

Here is confirmation, delivery from 2016 and its a speculative order with no customers in mind

Lessor Amedeo, newly rebranded from the former Doric Lease Corp., finalized an order for 20 Airbus A380s on Wednesday at the Singapore Airshow.

The memorandum of understanding for the aircraft was placed during the Paris Air Show in June. List price value is $8.3 billion and the aircraft will be delivered at a rate of about five or six aircraft a year between 2016 and 2020.

Amedeo CEO Mark Lapidus said the lessor did not yet have an airline customer for any of the A380s—“it’s a speculative order,” he said—and an engine selection would be made at a later date.

They obviously believe that airlines will want to lease A380's in the next couple years. It's a big gamble.

There are aircaft orders and then there are aircraft orders. All sorts of aiirlines/leasing companies "ordered" the A380 [& Concorde] when they were first announced. For many its reserving a place in the production line. The full commercial contracts are never published, but I doubt they are putiing down say a 20% non refundable deposit

A "finalized order" usually involves such a deposit which is refundable under limited circumstances, which is how AJ got that money back on cancellation of the 787 final orders.

I might put a order in if they can do no deposit. Wonder if I can get 180 days interest free as well
