Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night - what's eligible?

Hi all,

Trying to wrap my head around using the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night. Looking to book myself a stay in Edinburgh for 3 nights: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I select the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night and see some properties have this available. When I go through to the property there is an Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night that is ticked as "your preferred rate". When I click through on this it shows me the total amount for the 3 nights stay - it hasn't subtracted anything (but it does say that the amount is credited at check-in). Even though the website is offering me the option of the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night though I just want to check that I am entitled to it.

IHG define a weekend night as Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night states that the second weekend night will be credited to your bill at check-in. Does this mean that because I am only staying for one night defined as a weekend (Friday) that I'm ineligible to take advantage of the offer because I'm not staying a second weekend night? And if so, why is the website giving me the option to book the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night in the first instance?

I find IHG terms and conditions very confusing - I hope I've managed to explain my puzzlement over the situation well and that someone here can provide an answer! TIA!

The second night of the stay is the freebie. As you are checking in on a Wednesday then the second night (Thursday) is not part of the weekend.

You could make two separate bookings, one for Wednesday and Thursday nights (at any rate you can find) and a second booking for Friday and Saturday using the Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate, which will result in Saturday night being the free night. When I have done this, I make a note of the first reservation reference in the notes section of the second booking. You can also call the hotel before check-in to ensure they give you the same room (hopefully upgraded) for both reservations.
