A couple of weeks ago we arrived at ADL for a flight to SYD to find all Virgin systems down and total chaos - only flights departing in the next 45 minutes were even allowed to join the massive check-in queue. Since we were several hours early (a long story) we decided to take our yet-to-be checked luggage through security and go to the lounge to wait out the inevitable delay. Now I had totally forgotten I had a pair of scissors and a Swiss army knife in my luggage which was course picked by on the scanner.
Well here's where it gets amazing - the security officer offered to let me remove these items and post them home. He even went so far as to take the items away and wrap them in heavy tape so they would not puncture the envelope. He assisted Mr LL obtain a stamped envelope and took him out of the security area to the post box. I have to say it's hard to believe this would happen in almost any other country in the world.
BTW - our 3:30pm flight finally left at 5:50pm.
