My daughter and her new husband chose to go to NZ for their honeymoon so I used Qantas points to book them on EK412 from Sydney to Christchurch in Business class. Before they flew I suggested that they casually mention to the crew on boarding that they were on their honeymoon. I thought they might maybe be given a small cake or something. Little did I know…

Business class was quite empty (apparently everyone flew over Easter and now things are very quiet until the NSW school holidays), which may have contributed to what happened next, as reported to me from their hotel in NZ after the flight:

Soon after breakfast, the young couple (who had never flown business class before) were escorted back to the bar … where they were met by what seemed to them to be the entire cabin crew. They were given food, more champagne, a coughtail, and photographed in every pose imaginable, including behind the bar with as many crew members as would fit. Most of the photos were taken on what they told me was a “company phone” and were immediately airdropped to them. Some of the photos were taken with a Polaroid and those photos were put in cards and given to them.

The cabin crew then each signed the cards with a message in their own native languages, and the couple were treated to what they told me was a display of the “individual talents” of the cabin crew members including a fun fortune-card-type reading.

They were then each brought a bag of various goodies including a first-class amenity kit for each of them, and asked to choose from what sounds like the first class selection of chocolates. I suspect that the champagne might have also been better-than-business class, but we’ll probably never know!

Then, with time running out before the descent into CHC, they were taken into the almost-empty First Class cabin and shown the First Class seats, toilets and shower suites, with the crew photographing every detail. Finally one of the cabin crew brought one of the head-dress things that the female crew wore, and put it on my daughter’s head and showed her how to wear it correctly — which once again was thoroughly photographed.

Needless to say that the happy couple were blown away by this experience and are now lifelong Emirates fans. What a way to start a honeymoon!

Nice story!

Hmmm... - I've booked using QF points EK J SYD-CHC and CHC-SYD in January next year for PJM and myself.

Now seriously thinking that PJM needs to go to Big W to find a ring so I can say we are married and on our honeymoon.

Do you think they'll do the same for a couple in their 60s-70s? 🤔:p

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You could say it’s your 50th wedding anniversary 😂💕

Always mention special occasions.
Back in 2017 we had a 13 week RTW trip for our 40th anniversary.
On leaving the first leg to Hong Kong on Qantas Business we were given a bottle of champagne.
The actual anniversary was in San Francisco. The hotel gave us a bowl of roses, champagne and chocolates in our room and provided a complimentary tour by limo to our anniversary lunch at Sausilito. They also had alerted the Restaurant (Scoma’s) who gave us the best table and made a huge fuss of the occasion.

Unlike Qantas, Emirates has a reputation for providing excellent customer service.
