Hi guys,
I've been researching for ages on the best RTW flight I can possibly get, and after getting quoted for $5300 incl from STA i went to flight centre.

I got the following itinerary for just under $5000 incl taxes (4299 oneworld plus 698 taxes). The travel agent is the wife of a friend and said she was able to save me some money on taxes hence the drop in price:

1. QF 73 11NOV SYD-SFO 1535 1005
2. AA 1268 15NOV SFO-LAX 0940 1105
3. AA 1458 15NOV LAX-DEN 1220 1540
4. AA 1962 05JAN DEN-DFW 1320 1615
5. AA 2195 05JAN DFW-GUA 1745 2100
6. own arrangements
7. LP 627 21FEB MEX-LIM 2320 #0605
8. LP 27 02MAR LIM-CUZ 0930 1045
9. LP 115 10MAR CUZ-LIM 0915 1040
0. LA 4641 10MAR LIM-BUE 1235 1950
11. own arrangements
12. IB 6024 29APR RIO-BCN 2005 #1255
13. own arrangements
14. BA 641 24JUN ATH-LHR 1445 1640
15. QF 2 27JUN LHR-BKK 2215 #1535
16. QF 2 30JUN BKK-SYD 1735 #0530

As you can see we are heading to USA first to see my wife's family, then straight to Guatemala to head up through Belize towards Mexico, then onto Lima for our South American leg through Argentina and Brazil, before finally getting to Europe and a stopoff at Thailand on the way back to Sydney.

I have absolutely exhausted myself trying to find another ticket with the same itinerary at a lower price.

Any thoughts appreciated!!

Cheers

Hi dc_macca, welcome to AFF. :D

Looks like you have a LHONE5 for which the ex Oz base rate is indeed $4,299. With 698 in taxes it's not too bad.

More information here:

Try duplicating the booking with the oneworld explorer online booking tool and see what that prices out at:

oneworld Itinerary Planner

Other than that, it is much cheaper if you start (and purchase) in New Zealand - with a base rate of NZD4,099 (~AUD3300). Of course you would need a separate return fare to NewZealand (~$400) to start and end your trip. (and some re-routing to get around the 16 segment limit).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
