Hi all,

I was wondering what precisely are the limits when it comes to Lord Howe Island.

From the Qantas web site:

Carry-on baggage allowances
Route: Dash 8 services
Piece Allowance & Dimensions*: 1 x 105cm (41in) bag
Weight Allowance: 7kg (15lb) total

Also: In addition to your carry-on baggage allowance, you may also carry on board one small personal item such as a handbag, laptop computer*, overcoat, small camera, a reasonable amount of reading material or a small amount of duty free goods (where permitted).

Note that a 4kg carry on limit is identified for Olympic Dam, but not Lord Howe Island.

Checked baggage allowances
(Under exceptions)
Aircraft Type: Dash 8 Services
Destination: Lord Howe Island
Checked Baggage Allowance: 1 piece (maximum 14kg (30lb))
Carry-on Baggage Allowance: 7kg (15lb) total Dimensions apply

Dimension limits is 105cm linear (smaller carryon bag)

Now, I also talked to a Qantas staffer in the BNE QP who said that if several people are travelling, the 14kg limit applies per person, you could not have a 20kg bag and a 8kg bag and check both of them in, each had to be <=14kg.

Now, to ask some questions of the community:
- Does a briefcase count as a personal item? I would think it does. Does it have to be weighed, I think not - the personal item is supposed to be in addition to the carry-on bag allowance.
- There have been some stories (including people reporting personal experience) of a 4kg carry on limit being imposed on Lord Howe Island trips, even though the Qantas web site (twice) states 7kg.
- I presume there are no QP or PS, SG, WP weight concessions.
