Allianz complementary travel insurance eligibility

These sorts of details can be hard to pinpoint. I’m a stickler for fine print and PDS, but I can’t imagine finding a legally binding answer for this. It sounds like you are already on your trip. So, if this is your flight home, at that point would the need for travel insurance have passed?

The requirement is that you have a return ticket to australia. As long as you have one, at all times - ie no ‘gaps’ - then I don’t see a problem. (No gaps as in you cancel one ticket and wait one day, a week or two weeks or whatever to buy the new ticket.)

People change plans all the time, add side trips, etc. It’s the return to Australia that’s important as that’s what the insurance company will try and use to get you home if you suffer an insured event.

Well I am on the trip but have over 2 weeks to go

I’m confused about how you are changing the return flight. Does your original fare allow for change of the return segment or are you going to book a separate flight home and cancel the original return flight?

I don’t think there’s anything nefarious or an attempt to catch anyone out with this. It’s simply stating you need a return ticket booked before you leave Australia. Which you did.

You are free to make changes to that return ticket. And there is no stated prohibition on making changes. Provided of course you stay within the max time allowed out of the country for cover.

Lots of people for example will have booked a return using points, and then something better comes up last minute and they change. Or they decide to stay an extra week. Can’t see any issues or prohibitions against that.

It’s the underlying purpose of the requirement which is important… that you have a pre-paid way to get home which the insurance company will use, or refund on your behalf, if you suffer an insured event.
