All-White 747 at SYD?

Was on an 0730 domestic departure from SYD this morning and saw on the international parallel runway an all-white 747 with no tail markings nor any other visible markings (at least from the third runway).

Looked like a relatively small upper deck so maybe a 747-2/3. Could it have been one of QFs old 743s off to a desert home.

I work with a great view of the cargo terminal and there is the odd "white" ex passenger service cargo planes floating around

Sounds like a freighter - they only have a few windows up top. Something like Photos: Boeing 747-2D3B(SF) Aircraft Pictures | Airliners.net perhaps?

All of the 743's are gone or completely unflyable.

As someone else said, probably cargo.

This sounds like the one I saw and commented on a couple of weeks ago. Big areas of white painted over some other markings. The one I saw landed and went to the freight area and it was not a 743 as the upper deck was smaller than the 300.

I would still like to know who operates this aircraft. Strange that someone would be flying around without advertising their existence.

Its a 742 ex MAS, now owned by Air Atlanta Icelandic on lease back to MAS

I suspect this is the plane that carried the HUGE mast for one of the SYD - HBA Yachts,

the mast was that long, it had to be cut into 2 parts to fit in the plane, :shock:

the mast was then off to the Sydney City Marine complex to be fitted,

News last night showed the mast coming out of an Atlas Air branded plane with
Operated for Qantas on the nose cone (like this)

Sounds right. White is a suitable colour for an Icelandic airline :mrgreen:
