About to purchase tix to SIN in the next few days for travel mid April. I would greatly appreciate if someone could advise which flight numbers have higher probability of getting the new config aircraft? Thanks.

Depends upon where you are flying from really.

But QF81/82 from Sydney, QF35/36 from Melbourne, QF51/52 from Brisbane but reality is other non reconfigured aircraft are also regularly flying these routes, it is not quite as hard and fast as it was when there was just 1 reconfigured a/c.

I was so relieved / pleasantly surprised when after booking my ticket MEL-PER and upgrading to J, I seem to be on a reconfig'd plane in June :)

Edit: Now to decide whether to cop the 20k points and upgrade on my leg there as well, considering it's an afternoon flight and I'll have to drive immediately on arrival.

Given it's only a couple of weeks away, I'm happy to have a look at the seat map. Hopefully they wouldn't change much between now and then. *touch wood* And generally speaking, stay away from QF5/6 as it's the least likely pair.

Here are some pics of the whY cabin on the A333 VH-QPC.

Pic 1 is looking aft from the front of whY.

Pic 2 is the emergency exit.

Pic 3 is looking forward from the whY cabin.

Pic 4 is of 23AB which shows not to choose it if you want legroom.

That exit row window seat looks pretty cramped with the door bulge. Has that changed or was it always like that?

23AB - and yet QF charge extra for these seats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The exit row looks the same. It can be a nuisance, but if you manage to get a show it is a great seat.
I have used it a few times coming back from SIN-MEL. I have also been told once by the CSM to remove my feet from the door slide before take-off, but later came back and apologised when greeting me with a champagne!

My SO flew QF598 PER/BNE recently on a 332 (old config) & when I did his seat selection (as all good SWMBO's do) via MMB it allowed me to select 23B for nil extra cost.

Row 23 is adjacent to the galley & forward door used for disembarking at gate 24 in BNE (not sure about ex PER).

There was a prompt when selecting 23B along the lines of the seat may or may not have extra legroom so just wonder if that is a catch-all comment in cases where row 23 is just a bulkhead not an exit row.

SO who is 6'3" did say that he wouldn't have wanted to be in the window seat (which was unoccupied) due to leg space impeded by escape slide.

If I selected 44B it wanted to charge AUD60.00 for the exit so when choosing seats on a/c that have both rows 23 & 44 as exits, opt for 23.

With a 2-week paintjob, QPD can probably take QPCs spot when it is complete

Even if it emanates from elsewhere, this is great work by moa999 in extracting it. A regular update would be helpful.

Here is some QF publicity that while strictly not untruthful, neglects to state that it is not necessarily 'every flight' on the mentioned routes:

Qantas deploys upgraded A330 to Hong Kong - Business Traveller Asia

VH-QPD left SIN for SYD on the 30 Mar and didn't go into BNE maint. It is doing SYD-BKK today. Actually, QF seems to have abandoned SYD-SIN somewhat since QPC rejoined the fleet. It and QPA seem to be mainly doing SIN-MEL/BNE and MEL-HKG. For those trying to second guess the likely aircraft for booking purposes, a little pattern can probably be worked out if you study the flights taken by QPA and QPC on flightradar24. Of course QPB is likely to be out in another 3 weeks or so, making it 3 300 refurbs but it was thought QPC would see SIN-MEL/SYD scoring them almost daily but QF had other ideas. This may well be the case with QPB.

Sorry, I can't post a link because I have not done 10 posts yet.

No problem, it was due for an update given QPC was completed last week while I was away

MEL-PER - 481, 485
PER-MEL - 648, 802

I have been trying to work out the pattern... but I have not been able to identify it. I blame it on my own shortcomings. I am flying QF35 on 7 April - so 6 days away... fingers crossed!

Currently showing the old-config, and with J0 (ie sold-out) a sub would be unlikely as they would need to offload/downgrade
EF shows QF29 and QF51 as the lucky flights that morning

Lucky indeed!

Can't you just access your booking and select a seat?

Yes I can - but I'm not as savy about the seat plan. My upgrade just came through but when I looked the 4 rows confused me.

Many thanks for the confirmation :) Now which seat is best?

6E and 7F have the console on the aisle side. So less chance of being bumped at night.

Thanks for the review - and the heads up about the even numbered rows over those odd numbered.

I noted in early May a MEL-SYD connect is showing the new config - I am in 1A but for such a short flight I won't worry about being knocked ... besides, I doubt it will hold.

Which flight Serfty? I might join you for a test drive

PS searching Serfty brought up waaaayyyy to many posts :)
