ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

It certainly matters to me when booking Y - USB charging, better IFE, better seat, optional espresso request if I get lucky with crew :)

Depends upon what refurbished A330 you get. If I am not mistaken the earlier -200's don't have USB charging and the IFE is an iPAD, and the espresso? Not sure.

Flew MEL-SIN in J points op-up on A332 and was impressed. Had limited choice of seats as a result and took 7A.

Despite 7A getting bad wraps in the AusBT review I actually enjoyed it (thankfully no crying babies in the front row of Y).

The main additional benefits in all of row 7 in the 332 from what I could see are a larger footwell (as you don't actually have a seat in front, rather cupboards on top) and 7A/7K have a large 747/380 Style storage bin on the wall as well.

Folks it's very easy to see if your A330-200 is refurbished. Only 2 are U refurbished out of 18.
(All the A330-300 are refurbished)

Just look at the Qantas seatmap for your flight to

J class refurb only has 4 across- so if you're is refurb then it's either -200 or -300
J class non refurb is 6 across - so it's only the -200.

And if you are booking Y then it really does not matter what A330 you get, except the refurb have slightly less toilets overall

Toilet : pax ratios
A330-200(r) J 1:38, Y 1:48 (overall 1:46)
A330-200(u) J 1:18, Y 1:39 (overall 1:33)
A330-300 J 1:14, Y 1:44 (overall 1:37)

Assuming all a330-xx_ flights operates all A330 routes then you have 8.6 % of encountering an unrefurbshed A330-200. But all passengers would be better off toilet wise in an unrefurbised A330-200 and J in refurb A330-300

However from a practical POV I did not see a queue for the J toilet when I was on QF35 MEL-SIN on a refurb -200

How is the ratio of J toilets in refurb 332 1:38 when there are only 28 seats?

-200 with IPAD/in seat IFE do have USB charging ports. And the espresso is only on -300 for J pax.

i think some are referring to the perks which are lavished by some crew on platinum frequent flyers in economy. This is usually ok, except when they run out of champagne, wines or food because they've been handed out to the lower cabins :(

Yep they do have USB charging, the iPads require it.

and there are 2 USBs at each seat. 1 generally for the QF supplied ipad, and an additional 1 for other byo devices. And you do have the option to use the 2 USBs for 2 byo devices. (if you don't want to use the QF supplied ipad).

The bulkhead seats are by far the best for legroom (others are poor and uncomfortable even when sitting upright) and I am now leaning towards 1F as my preferred seat (the only non direct aisle seat in row 1).

Yep, that is what I did as the QF Ipad had pretty much kicked the bucket!

Very nice A330-200 suite rides in the past few days. Not a big fan of the food on board so I eat something in the business lounges.

Probably nothing what so ever. Its not like Qantas actaully owned the previous two a/c and had any say where they went after they finished with them as they were genuine operating leases. Whereas EBG and EBL are leased but more finance leases rather than operating leases.

Besides the RAAF has not indicated it is taking on addition KC30's, the VIP a/c will be one of the existing fleet of KC30's.

Here's a link with pics of HA's new beds and amenity kits. To BNE early December and to SYD from mid-December.

But it is taking on the ex-EBH/EBI from 2018

To give a fleet strength of 7.. Now if one of the existing aircraft is refitted then it might prompt another lease, noting previous YSSY rumours of further RAAF conversions

Yes know it is taking on those two they are the ones that I referred to as the previous ones.

The point I was making if it wasn't clear enough is EBH/EHI were leased from a leasing company. Cannot remember which one now but if I recall based in Ireland. At the end if the lease Qantas returned them and the leasing company sold them to the RAAF.

EBG/EBL are essentially owned by Qantas though the ownership is through a finance style lease so more long term. So a bit harder to just hand them back.

No don't get me wrong the RAAF may take more and they may take on ex Qantas A/C and these two would seem to be the logical choice it may explain the lack of a refurb but wouldn't think it is a given just because a leasing company sold two ex Qantas operated A/C to the RAAF previously which if I recall was your question.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Is there some reason why the Wiki in this thread largely off topic?
