All I want is SQ seat selection

It seems to always be my luck that no matter what class I'm flying I'm near the screaming babies. Does the A330 - 300 have premium economy do you know?

The 330-300 does not have premium economy, and there are no plans to equip it with either. Actually at the moment no SQ aircraft have premium economy, but shortly they will be progressively introduced to 777-300ER's and A380's.

As for the babies, only 2 of the 5 young children were noisy for the flight. I tend to be fairly tolerant, although these 2 were probably the most persistent crying, no screaming, babies I've experienced in all my years of flying. So I know what the worst case scenario is now. But next time I take that particular flight (SQ 208 from MEL, at 18:30) I will go for a seat further back.

We are flying to PVG via SIN from Melbourne in J on VA points in a few weeks. Just logged in to SQ website and did seat selection for all flights (4 in total) without a problem.

Book the cook is also available online as well.

Sounds promising... hopefully works for cash tickets too. Are you on a VA code?

Booked through VA call centre, first leg is SYD to MEL in J as well.

In order to do online seat selection you need the SQ booking reference no. which is different to the VA no.

I am travelling tonight in Y, and only had a choice of about 5 seats on the whole plane, for all sectors via the SQ website. So seat selection has been there, just a limited choice. This has been the case for the last few trips.

Yes, SQ does treat Y class pax with contempt. I am lifetime Star Gold, but receive exactly the same poor treatment. Puts one off SQ.

It does, but what is an alternative for some destinations..... 240SC for sub $1000 at times HBA-MEL-SIN-HKG rtn helps.....and the chance for an exit row if you ask nicely (scored one ex HK earlier in the year) isn't that bad.....waiting for checkin to open and will see what happens.

Edit: scored exit rows both sectors , happy.

Flew in Y - CPH SIN ADL this week, on SQ ticket - booked early so had option on seat selection upon booking but most cabin blocked as others have mentioned. Row 35 closest option to front and probably best balance as just far enough from bassinets yet still close to front.

But has anyone else been denied priority boarding with VA Gold? Flashed VAGold Card in CPH and SIN upon boarding after *A Gold announcement and was told it wasn't valid. Had *A Gold card handy but was just testing the waters as my *A will expire soon.

Seems SQ are famous for doing this and not opening seats until 72 hours prior. As a solo traveller I don't mind having limited seats and would consider an aisle seat, but there is no way I'd pick a middle seat. Also considering paying the $40USD for a preferred seat

I'm never too concerned about what seat I originally select. Once you hit that magic time when all the seats open up you would be surpirsed what you can get. I've never not had a front row bulkhead seat for my last 8 sectors including PPS heavy morning commuter flights to BKK and KUL.

I also have never been denied priority boarding and also never shown my card. On a trip MEL-SIN-USM they even let my 2, non status pax, travelling mates board with me

I have read that some here have had status printed on boarding cards but on our last 2 return trips nothing - even though both MissChipChip (SG) and my VA# numbers on the booking. That includes exiting ADL & SIN can forgive not have it printed in GOT as checked in at SK Desk.

Call SQ and ask for seats. Worked for me in the past. If youget knocked back, hang up and call again. You might get a more amenable rep on the phone.

Yep, did this - its worked in the past but not today.

But as I read earlier (this thread?), just downloaded the app and can select/change seats that way.

Given up on trying to figure out how to book the cook.

Had no problem in SYD, SIN or HKG last weekend. Tried flashing my card, and tried just the boarding pass (gate agent looked skeptical until she spotted the "PNTR GOLD" on it). Admittedly I'm always boarding towards the end anyway.

Seems like it was T-96 hours for my recent flights? Either way, it can be annoying if you're actually in the air at the magic time on a previous outbound flight, but I managed to score first Y row bulkhead on one sector this time (with no babies!), so can't really complain! This was SQ-ticketed, and everything was still blocked out in the lead-up.

On the other hand, USD 40 for an exit row seems to me to a reasonable price (compared to other carriers anyway) to not have to stress about chasing seat selection.

That's not too bad $$ wise. However I think it's ordinary that it is necessary to resort to an option like that so you can secure a preferred seat.

I've just done a VA Y redemption on SQ and have had no luck. I have tried logging in to SQ but it says contact booking airline. Tried that, said contact SQ. Tried that, said wait until T48.

As a VA gold, booked through VA on SQ code, when should I expect to be able to choose my seat?

You should've transferred points to SQ and booked a reward seat that way. Wouldn't have been as many points.

You can send them an email and tell them you're preference of either Window/Aisle, but usually when online check-in opens you should be able to pick a seat

Yeah looked at that, was trying to avoid the YQ on this Y booking, it was an extra ~$275 through SQ. When I rang SQ she said she would make a note of my seating preferences, but not holding my breath!
