Hey folks,

Ive been wondering and searching relating to the fluid allowances for carryon.

Back story: My fiancée and I are going to the USA to get married, and in the spirit of honeymoons, would like to have some stiff drinks to help me sleep on the flight.

Is it permissible, to have 4 (2 per person) 40ml miniature bottles of bourbon as carry on?
I understand there are fluid restrictions for the USA, so if the bottles are in a zip lock bag, screened seperately there shouldnt be a problem?

Perhaps it would be easier to purchase a hip flask sized glass bottle in duty free?

Im seeking confirmation, as it is hard to find information that covers both carry on fluids + alcohol.

We are travelling PER to LAX via SYD. I would 'intend' to purchase the bottles prior to check in at PER, however this would depend on carry on restrictions.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

HI d3funct, while it is permissible to take alcohol with carry-on, it is normally not permissible for you to serve it to your self inflight.

For international flights, the container can be no larger than 100mL and all must fit in your litre clear plastic baggie(s).

However, generally, you can ask the Flight attended to serve your liquor to you.

the airport duty free is selling 200ml bottle for just $6 so that might be another option.

Most airlines serve you alcohol anyways so why not just get the free stuff on the flight??

Some airlines only give you the first drink free in whY. Also the PER-SYD flight might be a daytime flight with no booze.

I wouldn't be using booze to help you sleep if you think sleep is that critical, you will wake up feeling like cough. If you have to sleep take some sleeping pills (after proper medical advice of course).

Hi D3funct,

Which carrier are you with? If your flying QF or Delta you should be given free booze, even in Y (eccon). If your with VA I believe you'll only be given the first one for free and with UA you have to purchase everything.

You'll keep on the right side of the liquid rules by taking 4 x 40ml bottles between two of you, however as others have said, most airlines won't let you drink them in flight. (I believe they can even confiscate them if you try)

I usually don't drink in flight (there are some exceptions, most notibly when I'm in J, and they are serving up some really good plonk) as alcohol can affect you differently up there, so a safer option is probably to get some form of sleeping pills from your Dr before you go.

Also welcome to AFF, and congratulations. :D

Please forgive me if this sounds like giving bad or illegal advice.

If a flight has a limitation of one free alcoholic drink then the easiest solution would be to ask for one complimentary bourbon and coke. When thirsty again later on in the flight purchase a buddy, or can, of coke and when back at your seat or in the toilet empty contents of miniature bourbon bottle into buddy, or can, of coke. Return to seat and drink contents of buddy, or can, of coke. Repeat as often as you feel necessary.

Unless you end up blind drunk no one is going to have a clue what is happening....

Many thanks folks for your responses!

With so much to do during the holiday it would probably be safer (as mentioned) to go with prescription sleepers, rather than risk feeling crook in the US..

Cheers!

JohnK you can always try that, but I doubt the FA's would be too happy with you if they found out...
