Alan Joyce warn Senators over law change

Does he? Qantas is not a state body? What right does a state senator have to interfere with said company?

He isn't a state senator. He was elected to represent a state, but he sits in the national parliament.

Sad but true.

I was wondering how long it would take you and on which point you would jump in. ;)

JQ hasn't really gotten regional routes from QF, they got the leisure routes, which in some ways does make sense if they acted like one company.

Please note the use of ?.

BNE-NRT? CNS-SIN? (well leisure on that one) Anything to KL?

Your thinking the leisure route is AU out to OS, not OS coming to AU. I'm not saying that all JQ flys is leisure as they also fly SYD-MEL, which is def not a leisure route.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i was talking a person at LAX last year while waiting to board a Vaustralia flight who claimed to be a retired engineer and he claimed that the places overseas that serviced Qantas aircraft do have an Australian Qantas employee on sight for final inspections.Mind you i am just going on what this person told me so i can only take his word for it.

I was really just sticking to Joyce's comment being about a regional network as opposed to domestic.

With no other evidence, I'm not sure whether this is sarcasm or not... :-|

That is true but never makes into the public with the whole 'QF maintains all of its fleet outside Australia' story. What do they say, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Irrespective of this, the Xenophons would advocate that this is not good enough. One job of overseeing things and many overseas hands doing the other work is not acceptable - all of those jobs must be done by Australians on Australian soil with Australian real wages and award rates.

Exactly - just like all those call centres that telecommunication, banks & a few other companies have on their payroll.

Just forbid QF from using QF internal funds of any nature to fund the capital or operating expenses of off-shore subsidiaries that fly into Australia. Or using QF guarantees to obtain external financing.

Or did I miss something...

Well no one's saying they're holier than thou. That kind of rigmarole has been in the news before.

In saying that, it's true that there hasn't been a huge ground movement about these companies compared to Qantas. Then again, saying "Commonwealth Bank" or "Telstra" doesn't really inspire a lot of national pride, doesn't it? Heck, mention these names overseas and you'll be lucky to find if a non-Australian knows that these companies are from Australia.

Well, I suppose that's what the Aussie politicians are thinking anyway.
