Sitting at Melbourne airport looking out over the apron. Wanted to postpone my trip, but unfortunately had no option but to fly today, unfortunately.

Although I was a little worried that the place would be chaos, it's actually quite normal out on the concourse and even the lounge is no more stuffed full than usual.

The only noticable difference is that a 747-400 is sitting at gate 11 waiting to fly QF 444. I can't see the registration from here, but expertflyer shows it as a 4-class 744. The lounge angels offered to move me onto it - tempting, if I could snag a PE seat - but they couldn't tell me what seat I'd be moving onto.

Interestingly, they said that they couldn't even look up a seat map because there are 'different levels within platinum', and each sees a different set of seat availabilities. More evidence for a system of pro-active onload, or PCV.

Anyone else flying today?

It was posted in the news earlier that the stroke was called off at the last minute. But the re-scheduled timetable would remain.

I was on 444 today and it was operated by 744 VH-OJL. I didn't even realise that the equipment had changed from 763 to 744 until I saw the 744 pull into gate 11 whilst sitting in the lounge. When I saw this I checked my seat (had not bothered when I used next gen pole for check in) and I was in 35A, so premium economy yay (this was different from my original selection on the 763)!

Just to let you know there was actually a seat free in premium economy, I am pretty sure it was 36E, so maybe you could have grabbed it but oh well. It ended up getting to Syd about 30mins late anyway.

BTW I am SG
