Airport sleeping

Hey guys,

Quick question. A mate and I are flying into dubai landing around 1am in the morning. We're flying in business class (on emirates) via singapore. Wondering what options there were for sleeping in airport until the morning (i.e. 7-8am). We've got an onwards business ticket (emirates again) to London (but not for a couple days after), so not too sure if that might give us any benefits?

I cant imagine too many places being opened for a walk in at 1am in the morning.

If you have 2 days in dubai surely you have a hotel booked? Most hotels are open 24 hours, just get a cab ... will cost you one night extra, but you're flying business so you can afford it, no?

IME: All hotels are open 24/7 in Dubai. Simply take a taxi from airport to a suitable accommodation.

In the Dubai Concourse B Business lounge at the very far end is a great quiet zone with loungers, pillows, blankets and eye masks. Really good for a quiet rest. However, you can't access the departure gates without going through security and I think without a valid boarding pass within 24 hours you probably wouldn't be allowed.

We booked on points Otherwise, we definitely wouldnt be able to afford it. We're looking at doing a year in Europe on a budget. So anywhere we can save money is a bonus!

I know it sounds contradictory, but given that we both managed to scrounge up points through flying with work and credit card deals - we'd kick out trip off with a bang on business!

Based on my research, theres only 1 hostel in Dubai - so we're looking at potential alternatives for the first night.

Any suggestions for a cheapish hotel?

I'm getting a bit old for it these days, but have spent a number of nights in airports for various reasons (not all of them my stinginess!)

That's not quite true.

I have spent more than a few nights at airports as I don't feel spending $40-$50 on cabs + $100+ on hotel for 3-4 hour sleep is not worth it. I can "suffer" for a few hours. You forget about it after a few days.

The ones that hurt the most are the hotel arrivals after midnight with a 4:00am wakeup and out to airport by 5:00am. Total waste of money. Embassy Suites Tampa was a classis example. ~AUD180 for hotel + ~USD44 for taxi for <4 hour sleep. That's if you can call <4 sleep half awake, worrying about not waking and missing flight, sleep.

It's not a matter of being able to afford it. I guess unless you've gone down the path of long-term budget travel, it's probably something you don't understand. It's the ability to save costs where you can by being smart...if we can save a nights worth of accomo, we can use that for another night elsewhere...

Have a look at the hotel chains best rate guarantees and do your homework, you can stay at a 4-5 star hotel for free sometimes, and in the UAE its not unusual, I had a free night at the Crowne Plaza Yas Island earlier this year. Another alternative is points, sometimes its cheap to buy points and use them, again the UAE has a lot of options.

No, nothing more to it at all. Of course you need to meet the rules, but essentially its find a cheaper site with the same room and conditions and its free.
