Airport Security friendly belt

Hi

Can anyone recommend a belt that you don’t have to remove going through airport security? All I can find on google is a load of cheap and nasty options and I don’t know if they’ll last for long. TIA

Yes. I can recommend a "La Boucle" belt.

I was given one as a gift last year by a relative who knew I travel a lot and it works as advertised. I've been through many airports since, and only once had to take it off (Munich) and that was before I got to the scanners. Every other airport has been a matter of walking straight through without issue.

It's a very clever design which does not have the holes traditionally seen in belts, you can thread the metal pin through any point along the belt strap to adjust to size.

The metal in the buckle is a titanium alloy which is designed to be airport friendly and does not set off the detection equipment.

For me, so far the La Boucle belt has remained on at : SYD x2, HKG x2, LHR, FRA, ZRH, DXB x2

Only exception has been MUC.

Exactly. Especially with body scanners they can show up regardless of any metal content.

It seems to be a roll of the dice. Some countries the belt must come off regardless. Some you can leave the belt on and if it triggers the alarm you either get a wanding with a hand-held metal detector or get told to take it off and put through the x-ray.

I have a couple of Grip6 belts with carbon fibre belt buckles and have never been asked to take it off nor have they ever set of a scanner. (X-ray, Body Image, etc). Of course I keep it hidden under a Shirt so its not in plain view but no pings or dings in over a 100 flights.

Yes sometimes you will be told to take it off. But not every time. And every time you don't get told to take it off is time and inconvenience saved.

My old belt had a small buckle and I never had to remove it flying domestically, nor at most airports overseas. It did still cause issues at some places, and it had to come off when there was a full body scanner. Then I replaced it with a new belt with bigger buckle and it triggered the metal detector every time.

So: yeah, I get where this is coming from!

Sorry to say but it isn't possible toa void belt removal at certain airports. Munich is mostly the case, but every single airport in the USA, Mexico and Canada made me remove my belt without discussion.

I've been using an Arcade Foundation Adventure belt for the last couple of years. I've had to take it off in only a couple of airports. I can't remember which ones... might have been LAX or YVR. For domestic airports, you can just breeze through. The buckle is made of Polyoxymethylene (POM), which to most people is just plastic... but it seems to be durable. It comes in a range of decorator colours. I picked mine up in a ski shop in Calgary last year or the year before. You can find a heap on eBay, Backpacking Light, Jindabyne Sports or even on Amazon if you'd like to make Jeff Bezos a bit richer.

I bought one of the below a couple years ago. Not been stopped in any airport so far. The "worst" that happened was a security station guard said "belts off" and I replied "but its plastic" and he waved me through.

Never had to take a belt off except Europe and USA. In Australia never a problem to keep it on even full body, but then it has a small metal buckle.

I sometimes wear steel toecap shoes that look like ordinary business shoes. I have had many a conversation with security staff when I took them of to go through the scanner who thought they were ordinary ones which I didn't need to remove. However I have recently discovered that the full body scanner does not pick up the steel in the shoe, and even if it does it is ignored.

Throughout the Middle East, central asia, subcontinent, Africa. If you think you’ll get an exemption from the guy calling ‘shoes, belt, watches’, you’re pretty hopeful.

I have learned to remove belt and put in carryon before or at the first security point, and put it back on in lounge.

I’d also like a laptop that lights up instantly when they point and say ’make it on!’ or similar.

Switching laptops to an SSD drive instead of the old HD makes my laptop light up in seconds. I never thought about it until now but several security checks have gone much quicker than usual because of this.

I've worn 4 different belts with metallic buckles over the past decade and not removed or been required to remove one, any single time, ever. Airports around Australia, Europe, Middle East, Asia and the US. Plus trains, boats, hotels, shopping malls, and tall buildings. On the extremely rare occasion I get a beep I show them the belt, get wanded, and walk on.
