Hey all

wondering from those of you that have apples airpods max andd hooking them up to inflight entertainment. i Bought a belkin lightning to 3.5mm adaptor and also a single 3.5mm adaptor to the airline twin prong. but when i used it with my airpods they would not work. i dont believe it to be the belkin cable but most likely the cheap 3.5mm audio to twin prong adaptor. its a no name brand was about $7 from JB HIFI. It didnt work on qantas dreamliners and to make sure it wasnt just their system it did not work on Avianca's A330 or A320.

Can anyone tell me a good one to buy i dont want to be stuck without being able to use them, didnt have this problem with my bose qc35 before thi and the included adaptor. i do have some flights upcoming that i see their inflight system just use the single 3.5mm jack so i can hook the belkin adaptor right in but i have some other flights with qantas and cathay and dont want to be stuck.

can anyone reccomend an adaptor to buy from somewhere or tell me what you are using to make yours work?

I bought this to use my AirPods Pro

Thanks. I might get.

Not that long ago that I got told not to use my Bluetooth mouse on a Qantas domestic flight :) Does anyone know if Bluetooth devices are now officially allowed on airlines (in general), or they just tolerate it?

dont know if that will be suitable its only a single 3.5mm, need the dual connector airlines have

this is the one i bought that didnt work, unless i just got unlucky and mine is specifically faulty.

besides i already have the belkin 3.5mm to lightning connector i coud just plug that in the same, but that doesnt work either, as i said you need the airline dual prong

I'm assuming it's the cable that is the issue. Was this the one you bought?

As that won't work. You need a cable with an Analog to Digital (ADC) converter in it for it to work with the AirPods Max. Most other cables work the other way around.

Apple sell one for $55 here:

Although you can get the black one on Amazon for $35 currently.

I've used this cable with a cheap airline audio adaptor and it works great.

You must be joking? Given everyone is using Bluetooth headphones. Also, hello....wifi which is a much more powerful signal in the same frequency band.

Yeah old rules that sometimes don’t make any sense at all. It’s like some airlines (or crews) won’t let you wear headphones on take off or landing to be able to hear crew instruction. Really all depends on the flight on the day.

i have just ordered the black cable from amazon anyway, cheers for that says ill get it tomorrow! will see how i go! just got to remember where i left the two prong adaptor at home, not a big deal to run down grab another for $9 from JB..

I got a hold of this Bluetooth adapter and it worked a treat even on a trans-pac flight + USB-C charging as I move to single USB-C charging across all devices:

thats an interesting looking one, might look at that one later ill stick with the solid cable for now. might vary flight flight with using bluetooth as somne have said specially with landing and take off i wont have to worry about being bothers.

i might of got the last cable on amazon. prio to buy it, it said next day delivery. my order also says this on the order info screen still, but now the main page of lightning adaptor says delivery 24th of jan! i leave 29th dec.

Have never had any problems using this (or previous iterations) at any point during any point of the flight. They tend to be so small it's barely noticeable.

But this small size is also a timely reminder - always check you've taken it out!
