AUCKLAND - Air New Zealand has challenged domestic competitors in New Zealand to start reporting their On-Time Performance (OTP) based on a standard 10-minute window.

ANZ says that 86 percent of its 15,357 flights operated by 68 aircraft departed within 10 minutes in July.

Group executive Bruce Parton said the 15-minute window adopted by rival Pacific Blue was a slap in the face to Kiwi travellers.

Aaaahhh....New Zealand. One of the few - if not the only - country in the world where it is a crime to not check in someone who turns up at T-10 with checked baggage onto a domestic flight.

Fair enough what NZ want everyone else to do, but if it's not an industry standard then too bad; it's just their own boasting rights then. Besides, as far as aircraft numbers are concerned, NZ have so many more compared to DJ and JQNZ combined, so they will always maintain "better" boasting rights than them simply because comparing OTP percentages amongst the carriers will never be a statistically fair comparison of apples and apples (e.g. NZ can have an OTP of 75% and DJ an OTP of 90% and say, "Well, we've got umpteen times more aircraft than DJ, so...." you can fill in the rest.)

In any case - and I can't access Travel Mole without signing up - I'm not surprised that NZ only regards DJ as its rival. Naturally JQNZ has no hope in having any sort of credibility in the domestic OTP stakes.

My apologies anat0l, I was not aware of that ,a friend in the industry emailed the whole story to me and I just posted the link as I received it.
