@Melburnian1 raises an interesting issue on Scoot (IATA code TR)

"Consumption of outside food and beverages is not allowed on board"

Is this enforced on TR?

What other airlines ban outside F&B?

BI does not serve alcohol on board its flights but do not ban non muslim passengers BYO.

Cheers!!

We don't want to go OT for long, but you asked.

Yes, officially not. However from my experience TR flight attendants turn a blind eye, although I only ever brings snacks and non-alcoholic drinks on board, and keep turning around to see if a staff member is approaching. It's funny (but also 'disturbing') to do this, but I've no wish to suddenly become the centre of attention if an FA decides to be officious.

I've never stretched the relationship by bringing KFC, Red Rooster or anything else hot/odorous on board. Not worth the risk.

I'd love to know how many have become aware of this and refused to book on TR as a result. It's just about the silliest 'revenue enhancing initiative' I can recall.

Here's an excerpt from its website (it depends on whether 'water' is a 'beverage' but I'd suggest that it is, even though often it's unadulterated):

Helpful information
  • Actual meal may vary. Pictures are for illustrative purposes only.
  • All meals on the menu are not Halal Certified, unless otherwise indicated.
  • Meals served on Scoot's flights may contain traces of nuts or other allergens.
  • Premium Selections are only available for purchase up to 72hrs before flight.
  • If your booking is made less than 72 hours before the flight, you may be served with an alternative meal.
  • Please present your boarding pass or itinerary on board as proof of purchase.
  • Consumption of outside food and beverages is not allowed on board.

I can't see how this would be enforced. Is anyone really going to take a half-eaten sanga from a passenger? Seems a law suit waiting to happen if one was to bring ones own food for dietary or allergen reasons.

As for banning alcohol for Muslims, that also seems overly restrictive. So how does a hostie even know the religion of a pax? Perhaps little hats might be a give-away but even a person in a burqa could be a Pauline Hanson wannabee, or even more alarming, Pauline Hanson. Airport security staff get in all sorts of poop for making such assumptions, and just as much poop for not too, so why should hosties be allowed to religiously profile?

I once sat next to an off-duty EK hostie on a flight and she said there was a high demand for the "special OJ" from pax afraid to publicly order a vodka-orange. And some colleagues I worked with in the UK were Muslim and had no issues with downing pints after work.

Interestingly I always wondered if I could take a packet of pork crackling on EK?
Well the way around the TR tules would be to say: "sorry I cannot eat your non Halal food so I brought my own Halal F&B

SYD T1 Krispy Kreme is Halal certified

.....

BI does not ban alcohol to Muslims which would require a FA to as you say "religiously profile". BI just does not serve alcohol full stop, they just wont stop you BYO. Would they report a Muslim who BYO to the Sharia police upon landing in BWN?. I dont know the answer to that

Apart from BI as noted above, I can't think of any airline that would allow BYO alcohol. Indeed there are usually specific rules against consuming BYO alcohol that often invoke RSA regulations.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

MH allowed me to consume my own alcohol, a glass of wine, on one of their less than 3 hours flights (meaning dry). It was a dinner flight, BKK-KUL in J and I asked permission first. They even provided an extra glass just for the wine.

I can’t think of that many commercial airliner related scenarios where consuming your food & drink outside wouldn’t be just downright dangerous.

Your OP seemed to infer that muslims would not be permitted to BYO on BI. Again, reporting the actions of a pax on the basis of their assumed religion would be problematic.

Not infer. I just didn’t know whether they would ban BYO by Muslims. And if they did how they would detect a Muslim from A non Muslim is problematic.

Yes as I've said. Your second post seems to indicate that you do know that BI do not ban BYO:

But if BI don't ban muslims BYO, why would there be a need to report to the Sharia police? hashtag: royallyconfused

On my Scoot flight from Singapore to Sydney a couple of years ago, the lady in front of me packed pretty much an entire picnic for herself and her daughter - the very pungent salami was my favourite of the items that wafted over the seat divide. I think there may have been eggs as well.
