I'm trying to lock in a trip. Open jaw, AU>NGO, TYO>AU, premium economy.

QF offers domestic Y fares to SYD, QF25 to HND and JL to NGO, QF26 back to SYD, then domestic. $2.9k (and another $200+ if I don't want to sit at SYD domestic J lounge for 8+ hours) Y fare pricing offers via MEL one direction and SYD the other for $1.9k.

JL site allows section via SYD, MEL, SIN and HKG with options for JL, CX, QF and SQ. Allows flight selection, with most flights marked as premium economy not available, then fails on pricing.

CX offers via SYD, MEL or BNE via HKG to NGO, then back from NRT or HND via HKG and MEL or SYD. Quotes $2.8k prior to flight selection. Then upon picking flights, it says $5+k. Bumping up to J for inbound to NGO.

Why is QF and JL downgrading to Y where W is unavailable, and CX is bumping up to J?
