Airline to unveil seating revamp

Nah.. the NZ seat is wider, better equipped with storage and other little design touches, better pillows/quilts, better table etc.. and has FAR, FAR better IFE!

All agreed better than all the herringbone airlines except for VS IFE, which I find a lot easier to navigate than NZ IFE.

NZ IFE is a bit slow to respond and you don't know what all the titles are until you scroll to them (VS IFE has them in a list, so you can scroll the list and see about half a dozen titles at a time). I didn't like navigating the NZ IFE and having to repeatedly bash the right arrow key again and again in order to see what was nice to watch of all the 27 comedy programs available.

Also, NZ may have gate-to-gate IFE, but it doesn't hold all the time.....

Interesting comments on the SkyCouch by a journo:
Is this the future of economy class? -Times Online
Two people could sleep next to each other, but they’d have to be in the very first throes of love, able to sleep perfectly entwined in total harmony. They’d have to be short, too. The seat is 28in wide and 61in long, offering a lounging area for two that a creative estate agent would describe as intimate. To exploit its loafing potential, you’ll have to buy the entire row.

and from journo who actually has tried it:
Testing Air New Zealand's Skycouch - Times Online
But as I edged towards the window and an Air New Zealand pillow, its limitations struck home. The bed ended midway down my calf. With my feet hanging free in the aisle, I would not get much sleep, crushed by trolleys and fellow passengers.

Reviving this, the middle 4 seats could actually be a pretty decent bed for tall people. Though buying 4 seats for one person is a little excessive, especially when Y+ and J await.

Only the window/middle/aisle in the first 11 rows will turn into "Skybeds"...

Not the middle 4...

The limitations lengthwise of the configuration are the same as the "old" three-seats-to-yourself that many of us enjoyed "back in the day"...

I seem to recall sleeping just fine then with knees bent!

I know that, I’m just saying, were they to offer the middle 4 seats the same option, they’d be much more suited to taller individuals.

If you booked 4 seats together you would need be on your guard that people didn't see empty seats and try to move into them, even if you paid for them it could get messy, hopefully the crew would know you booked all the seats back you up.
