Hi, just wondered if anyone can help me with airline taxes? Are all airlines comparable in what they charge? We are thinking of using Krisflyer points to fly Melbourne to Paris return but wondered if their taxes were comparable to other airlines. Thanks in advance.

Real government taxes are same
However surcharges (fuel etc ) are not
Many people do not understand the differnce. The airlines do make it clear (on purpose IMHO)

Note also that payable taxes for the same flight depends which airline you redeem awards with. I booked a SQ flight PEK-SIN using AirNZ points and paid $13 tax, whereas if I booked the identical flight with SQ it would have been $100 taxes... of course, the award 'cost' was relatively higher with NZ.

Not true. Real taxes are the same. Other airline costs added to award flights, that may look like or thought by the passenger to be "tax" can be different. Goverments do not have different tax laws for different companies providing the same service.
