It's a bit off topic but I've noticed that too. "Mask on the chin" look seems to be very fashionable among Qantas and Air New Zealand crew alike

Virgin check in agents in Sydney don't even bother with the facemasks at all (yesterday).... its everywhere.

Had several flight attendants on Qantas wearing clear face shields and no Masks on 2 flights at the weekend. I thought they werent allowed

Just a shout out to our moderators- that was an impressively quick and reasonable move to split this discussion off the priority boarding thread! 👍

What happens if the discussion turns into hygiene in the priority boarding queue, where do I post then?

I don't get the whole mask-wearing things in airport terminals given it's not done in NZ and arguably it's no different to a big-box shopping centre. Strangely enough, we survived through all last year through to January this year with no masks on planes and the risk was much greater back then.

As a side point who is meant to enforce the mask wearing/hygine? If it's the crew and the crew doesn't care then it doesn't get enforced. How about check-in staff in an airport?

My last couple of flights, the crew in the biz cabin have been pretty spot on with mask wearing.

I also saw a QF flight attendant with the clear face shield, although the others on the flight had standard face masks.

This- on a recent intra-NT flight the CSM had the face shield and no mask; the other cabin crew all had masks only. I didn’t ask.

They aren't.
Definitely no exemptions TI?

Rex and VA ground crew not wearing masks in SYD again this week. The budget terminal in Sydney seems to be a hot spot for optional mask wearing!

Haha- I love that you call it “budget terminal” as that pretty much describes the riff raff there. No surprise at all about the mask wearing being taken a “bit less seriously” there.

Just beware, some Virgin fanboys might not like that term 😅

I wouldn't say it's just a specific terminal. Most of the staff in the SYD QF J lounge had their masks under their nose last week.

Well it is the budget carriers.... my Sydney driver calls it that and it just stuck 😂

The politics of needing to be seen to be "doing something" - the fact that this then riles people up into tribalised groups, then all the better...
