This is more out of ignorance than otherwise, but what responsibilities should AF be owning up to, and to what degree does that have an impact on the judgement or supposed primary culpability of CO?

A question; Has AF ever admitted to anything for any accident?

Matt

A couple of years ago I watched a doco in this crash and there were a number of things that contributed to the crash that AF should take responsibility for.

1. The plane was over its maximum take off weight for the conditions.

2. The fuel was loaded unevenly in the tanks. One tank was so full the fuel had no chance to move. When the ruptured tyre struck the tank it caused a massive vibration. The fuel had no room for movement and subsequently exploded.

3. The landing gear was missing a crucial shim which prevented a snug fit causing the plane to pull to one side. This was noted in the official investigation due to the tyre marks on the runway.

I am not saying Continental were not to blame, but they were certainly not 100% responsible. AF need to acknowledge that IMHO.

I don't believe so, I think the eyes have always been on the CO plane which used the runway just prior and AF haven't really wanted to do anything to change that.
