I travel Internationally quite a lot for my job, however as it tends to be different regions of the world it also tends to be different airlines. Ive been a Qantas and Singapore Airlines member for some time but have had to join loyalty programs for KLM, Emirates and it now looks like Lufthansa even though some are in One World or Star Alliance.

To collect my frequent flyer points on a Lufthasa flight do I have to join their "Miles and More" program even though they are a Star Alliance member for which I already have a Krysflyer membership number? I suppose the same would apply for the ability to choose your seat on the flight?

Any help kindly appreciated as Im collecting a bunch of cards and membership emails etc that would be better if it was handled by just the "Group Alliance" membership.

As a general rule i would use my Kris Flyer for my LH flights, but depends on class, sometimes its better to collect 50% miles say instead of having miles sitting in a program you will never use.
