Airfares to US to drop?

How many people travelled in the 3 months in 2022 vs 2025? A heck of a lot less. Particularly since it was q1 and people just weren't back to travelling then post COVID.

I am looking at flying to Miami next year for work, and airfares are still around 15k on american airline.

ANA is doing for 10k so i'll be taking a "long indirect" route to get there.

You might want to read the post earlier in this thread about the guy that flew JAL or CX from Oz to the U.S....

Far too many scare tactics and beat ups by the media IMO.
We visited the US a couple of months back and went ADL-KUL-DOH-CAI-FRA-IAD and arrival at IAD was faster and smoother than anything I’ve witnessed at most countries including when we return to Australia. No line up at immigration and lady checked my passport, took my fingerprints and waved me on, not a single question or inquiry about our itinerary. No checking of phones, laptops etc.
Was our first time and after hearing the horror stories I was expecting worse. We departed the US a few days later for the Caribbean and due to circumstances had to return to the US the next day and again a seemless experience

It was CX and were doing very similar in a few weeks. Not at all concerned.

I suspect, especially given all the comments I’ve read & heard about their TSA & CBP over the years, that Bad Things have always been happening to people entering the USA, it just wasn’t newsworthy before the Orange Menace (“chill out, guy!”) started making really loud noises about That Sort Of Stuff.

Could it happen to someone innocently entering the USA? Yes, and it always could have. It’s just not a risk you considered before. We know that appearing to have a family background from the Middle East currently gets you targeted there, like the young lady from Western Sydney who was trying to visit her Marine Corps fiancé in Hawaii … but it probably has for decades.

Is it more likely now? Probably not, not for anyone who hasn’t drawn attention to themselves publicly in ways their current administration doesn’t like. You wouldn’t want to be someone who’s been protesting against human rights violations outside the US Consulate for the last 3 months, but then I doubt you’d find many AFF members who have. :)

I've attempted to find any examples of this sort of stuff happening outside the Trump admin and have had no luck. It seemed to happen frequently during his first 4 years as well.

Searching for media articles on this is not very accurate.

There are objective stats that report this stuff - CBP encounters. https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/nationwide-encounters

The numbers from Biden's administration are higher than what they are now.

CPB encounters don't automatically translate into the horror stories we're seeing. discussion. The bulk of the encounters are from the southern border which hardly seems relevant. If you excluded the southern and northern land border data, you'll probably see an increase in encounters.

You're just basing that off media reports, which are hardly scientific.

Also from my observations, a majority of the "horror stories" leave out key details such as the person having a partner in the US, is intending to work or some other reason why the US would take interest in their case.

Genuine tourists or business travellers with a clean record having issues? Almost zero.

Heres' one from the Biden years......a nice high profile F1 driver from 2024
Yuki Tsunoda has revealed that he feared being sent back home after being stopped by immigration for questioning on his arrival in the United States ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The Japanese flew into America for a promotional event in Las Vegas earlier this week but faced dramas at the airport – being pulled aside and interviewed amid some doubts about whether or not he should be let into the country."

Basing what off media reports? The media report are the thing I'm talking about.

Let's agree to disagree. My issue is with the multiple weeks of imprisonment following minor visa issues.

Oh we can definitely agree that media reports on this stuff has increased during the current administration.

My point is that we shouldn't corelate this to an increase in actual events. It's just an increase of media interest.

I'm not going to buy into a theory that they were happening to the same extent or scale and simply not reported. Not without evidence, anyway.

Thanks. This is nowhere near what we've seen out of the Trump admin, but being held for 2-3 hours is still pretty bad, especially since theoretically high-profile individuals should have a smoother than average experience.
