Airbus Patents POD to reduce boarding time!

Won't reduce boarding times. Could increase airframe (and pilot) utilisation

But... with a removable pod I suppose there could be room in the ceiling for a parachute (or three or four). Would possibly improve crash survival (for pax at least, maybe not for the pilots).

Checks calendar.. not April 1? I'm surprised.

May reduce 'boarding' time but not make departure any more timely. Pod couldn't be manoeuvred up and in until last pax on and belted up and the safety briefing then given (and a longer one at that! .. "in the unlikely event of the pod getting dropped at either end ..."

KISS is worth entertaining, here.

I've thought about such before. Although I envisaged a pod more like that you see on the Thunderbirds.

It makes since sense. As dwell time is a major factor in considerations of transport systems.

Have everyone ready and seated for a shorter turn around of the "aircraft".

Railways will one day be similar where a pod will be waiting at the station then simply attached onto a passing "train".

But yes it's probably as realistic today as there thunderbirds are.

There's a huge difference between a patent and a proposal!
