I have previously flown AirAsia for cheap short-haul country-jumping. On the whole they are pretty efficient and good value.

Recently I was lucky enought to pick up some free AirAsiaX flights:

HKT for travel in Aug09. The plane is an Airbus 330. Sure it wet season, but that's OK I love it warm 'n wet.

Has anyone flown with AirAsiaX overnight to Asia, possibly on the same route. If so, are movies available, and what should we bring on board to make our trip a bit more comfortable (other than some cash for refreshments). This is my first time for a longish flight on a LCC.
P L E A S E tell me its better than JetStar.

Cheers

Ok we wont tell you...

JetStar A333 = whY 2-4-2
AirAsia A333 = whY 3-3-3

Between MEL and KL. There is a thread around here in the last couple of weeks about it.

Seems nobody has tried yet so please do report back.

I much prefer 2-4-2, as with 3-3-3 a window seat is out of the question. Who wants to climb over 2 other people whenever the call of nature strikes?

What a stupid design!

If you are going to go 9 abreast seating, then airlines either go 3-3-3 or 2-5-2. In general, it seems people on this board prefer 3-3-3 over 2-5-2.

The bigger problem I see is that it is 9 abreast.

Thanks for you prompt feedback.

The previous posting about AirAsia seating was me seeking advice on good seats on this plane. It seems that AirAsiaX is the only LCC that utilises the 3+3+3 configuration. Eventually we chose forward of the wings for early service, and because the cabin tapers quite a bit towards the rear.

I might take a pillow, a good book, ear-plugs and my iPod.

Shame about leaving Canberra in August though...snigger snigger. I'll be sure to report back on how the flight went.

Cheers

I promised to report on AirAsiaX flight from MEL:arrow:KUL and KUL:arrow:HKT on the A330 with 3+3+3 seating configuration.
SEATS: Narrow, hard and uncomfortable. At the end of 8hrs I was chewing my leg off. If you are big framed don't even consider this plane. AirAsia admitted the seats were less than satisfactory, and is working at replacing them all.
FOOD: AirAsiaX set the low bar for in-flight food. They served something that resembled calf-dung in a plastic dish plus some water. Even by budget airline standards it was cough. I've spent a lot of time backpacking in Asia and will eat almost anything...except that swill.
FLIGHT: Delayed departure 1/2 hr, and once in the air it was OK but glad I brought ear-plugs. Interestingly, I flew with AirAsia twice more whilst away, and the seats on these planes were far superior to those on the A330.
Well winter is almost done, and its back to work on Monday.

Cheers
