Will be interesting to see how it prices against CX for (ex-Aus) one stop via HKG.

Press reports and routesonline indicate that AirNZ will be starting 3x weekly service to ORD from 30 November.

.... The following schedule is effective 30NOV18 – 09MAR19.

Reservation for this new route gradually opened after 0840NZT 28MAR18.

NZ026 AKL2010 – 1615ORD 789 357
NZ027 ORD1910 – 0630+2AKL 789 357

Block time is around 15 hours for NZ026, nearly 16.5 hours for NZ027.

Very interesting. IMHO this is the start of the next age in air transport - an extension of ever more ultra-long-haul point-to-point routes using medium size twins.

Ooooh. Interesting. Chicago was one of the cities that has been thrown around for a new Qantas route.

AirNZ non stop AKL-ORD starting Nov 2018
3 times a week W/F/S
NZ26/27

First ever air service to take off between New Zealand and Chicago - Media releases | Air New Zealand

B787-9
GCMap distance 8184km

By comparison:
SYD-DFW 8578 km
PER-LHR 9010 km
AKL-JFK 8828 km

UA has a hub in ORD so that may be one reason to go there. I would have thought that JFK would be a better destination as a tourist but it will likely be carrying some UA codeshares in return for UA doing more AKL-SFO

Probably will use the 275pax version ANZ 787-9 instead of the 302pax version

(QF787-9 total pax 236pax)
